I am thinking about designing and building a ferrari style shifter for the gt 5 speed if there is enough interest. Possibly even make one for the gts. Anyone who might be interested please reply.

pm me if you are definetly for the 5 speed manual gt I am very interested. but one question though how would you shift sorry for the stupidity, you still have to usa the cluch?
I was thinking about picking this project up here in a month or so... but if you want it, go for it, and if you need advice/help drop me a line! If it looks good, i'll probably buy one from you!
It just might be me that's a total dumb ass, but 5 speed? You get the GT with only 5 gears in the US? We only have (as far as I know) 6 speed here in norway.
and you might run a risk of breakin the rod if you shift too fast and hit the middle of the gates...
some ferrari owners did that...
How the hell would you do that? I just don't understand...Oh, and someone said it would make your throws longer...NO! NO IT WOULDN"T This is just a guide for the stick. The throw is controlled by the pivot in the shifter housing. Has nothing to do with this overlay. I was also thinking of making one outta thick plexiglass. That way you cuold light it up underneath!! I think it would look so sweet!

i just cut out the base for it with no gates yet but its plexi glass broke a saw bit and 2 drill / cutter bits
hey thats a 20 minute phone call "if i have seen farther it is by standing on the shoulders of giants" derek: do you know that non dairy cream is flamable Jennie: ...derek..what did you do

crap. hmm. What is cool about this is I have a friend that has a computer automated laithe! So, once I have a functional prototype, I can mass produce them!
If one of you gets one working before I do let me know!

dude, i would so go for one of those. ill try making one in my welding class, because we have a computer controled plasma cutter. what kind of metal were you thinking of making it out of, aluminum?
Look to the sky just before you die, it's the last time you will.
i was looknig at the shifter and base on my way to class's and reilzed that our gate wouldn't exsist the ball of the shifter (i.e. the top of the shifter base) is nearly inline with the sides of the molding part ( i.e. where you would mount the shift gate)
so unless someone figures out how to drop the hole shifter base down like 3 inches its pointless to go on
makes you wonder how long that tops of those ferraris shifters are

Ok...I am back. Plexiglass is definately out...would crack being as thin as it would hve to be to fit. However, I think I could do it with aluminum. Looks like I have about 1/4 of an inch to deal with. Plus, the nice thing is I can make it slide right in to the factory shift boot housing! OMG this is gonna be sweet!!! ...
Now I just need some lotion, a tire iron, Ice cubes, a bull whip, dice, and a hooker and we are good to go!
AWWW Crap...I just realized what he meant...yes it is screwed. LOL I just realized if i did it it would look like a little + sign surounded by metal...not quite the effect I was going for...well...oh well...
jsut not enough room you could make a really tine shift boot though lol

since i do have a template now i can try to make one and see what it comes out like but i don't think it will look as good casue theres barely any forward/backward movement

this is what it will look like i will get it on the car tommorow raining/ night now so im not in the mood lol

Your making one like this correct? If so this will be awesome
cant the picture on first page is what it would look like are shifter base's are too high to be able to do ones like that hence why mine just looks like an opening

I wonder how Ferrari makes that thing work then...
Ah well. It woudla been cool if it worked.
BTW... it is possible to break the shifter with those gates. A writer in R&T magazine did it twice while driving a Lambo with those type of shift gates during a comparison test.
I'm just a crosshair I'm just a shot away from you

if you would drop our shift bases a inch or two or rased that center consol an inch we could do it

looks badass IMO but im affraid i would drop a french fry in it or something... (dont get all technical on me saying that it doesnt matter cause they are cable connected... its just bad to lose a fry in that way )
rocketman is right looking at the shifter today made me see this would be a lot harder then expected. Im still going to play around with the idea ill let you guys know if i come up with anything good.
