the gauges light up just fine, and the dimmer works.
The radio back light blips on, then shuts off.

it's not that hard to understand everything under there... once you work under there, you figure it out.. anyway, so it's JUST the radio that doesn't light?? or the entire center console (AC and shit)?

the entire center console is dark. The radio comes on for a brief second, goes dark. Stereo works, cig lighter works, no light.

you checked fuses for that?? maybe the fuse isn't tight... otherwise, it can be a wire leading to or from the fuse...loose connection.

Hey, at least your car runs.
Got my new wheels/tires in today and I've gotta wait a few days to drive on them.
But yeah, this is bullshit. I'm gonna ask the guy in the parts department if they have had people complaining of this, and I might just have them service it.
Also, when the A/C is turned on, the light doesn't kick on.
Diablo, I think my A/C bulb is good because people have complained about the same thing happening to them, so what wire runs to the A/C bulb, and not the Rear Defrost, because that still works and lights up.

I
did take it in and Toyota said "Sorry, we can't fix it"
They wanted $1500 in shop time for diagnostics.

I'll just keep telling myself that my interior looks good in the dark. I wired in some lights so the AC console lights up, but the radio doesn't light up, and the A/C button doesn't either. Gayness.

If the instrument cluster lights work but all of the console and radio lights dont, its likely that you have a faulty instrument cluster. Do this diagnostic procedure to verify that the cluster is the problem: Remove the cluster and jumper the white and green wire on the blue plug to ground. Turn on the ignition and headlights. If the console lights are illuminated then the problem is in the cluster. You can just leave the white and green wire grounded and the console lights will work at full brightness. See the pic below for the location of the wire. Good luck.

Skin the wires back slightly and wrap a short length of wire to them.Tape the exposed wires when done. See pic below:

Tater, I did this just now, the green white to #10 GRD on the white plug, and it didn't fix the problem.

Are you using the stock OEM radio? If you are using an aftermarket deck, try disconnecting the light lead from it and see what happens. The celica lights function by attenuation of the ground. If that doesnt solve the problem then that's about all the help I can offer. You will need an expert to hands on search out your problem.

I don't take any information from Toyota, because 99% of the employees don't know a dick from a glass of a milk.
Most inept service I've ever encountered in my life. The people at WAL-MART are more helpful.

ok jameson heres what you gotta do...did you test the wire at the light? If you still have power then its somethign with ur light. If you dont' have power you can try to trace that back but thats almost impossible...just run a wire from ur dimmer switch to ur light and cut the old wire and tape it up and run a brand new wire...it will work then
Or if you come to the june meet i'll fix it there for you

Also, I tried my friend Stock GTS Radio(the light works in his celica) and didn't work in mine... So it's not the radio the problem for me ...

Nate, I tested the entire board (pins 4 and 7 are for the loop for power) they had continuity, and the bulbs each have continuity.
You got me as to what it is, if you can fix it, I'll buy you a 6 pack

it doesn't sound too hard to do...probably a pinched wire or a circuit loop is out somewhere

Gotta be a circuit loop, because this has happened to too many people, and a pinched wire just doesn't sound right.
