Exactly Easy_C, CARB only counts in California and i happen to live in California and the cops here are trained to be assholes from time to time and i just dont want to go through the hassle of going to court to prove that i put back my old airbox and put my Intake back on once i pay my dismisal fee for the judge.

dont you have to modify something when installing the Injen, like cut something. Cus there in one on ebay for 175. If it is not hard to install I might get one. The aen is really straight forwrd but i heard injen is harder to install.

With the Injen you have to cut the ECU cooling tube.

As a guy who had an Injen on his GTS my advice would be to go with the TPR CAI or the AEM. The Injen low end bog and lift lag just sucked big time, imo anyway.

Check this thread out;

Wow thx guys! I was going to go with the Injen myself but after your posts I may have to change my mind & go with the AEM. I read that the Bypass valve doesnt do much? Is that true? The Injen has the heat shield can I use that with the AEM CAI?

All AEM Bypass valve questions answered here:

http://www.aempower.com/faq.asp?fid=22&sid=3&tid=

There where reports of the rubber or foam drying out in the early AEM Bypass valves and pieces of that foam or rubber getting sucked into the throttle body. Dont' how wide spread that problem was or if they corrected it.

As for the Injen Heat shield/Splash I found this link;

"Will work on (all) the 2.5, 2.75, and 3 inch Intake systems from Injen and "Most" others too."

Hey thx so much! I have been reading on the forum that its best to run a AEM CAI on the GTS b/c the GTS has high end torque & the AEM has low end torque. I was heading towards Injen but now that I have been researching this with you guys here I think I may be better off going with the AEM. Wow you guys are the best! I have gotten more positive feedback in the last 2 days here, then I received on the other forum that I "was" for 2 yrs!
Thanks again smile

That was great info. TPR does sound like a better fit for my GTS. However I am a little concerned about getting a ticket for not being CARB approved. AEM is the direction I will most likely go...

im lost on which one to buy really. TPR is scaring me a little though, it has more airflow and with a smaller diameter pipe. does this mean some dirt might get into the engine? how safe is it for the engine reliability and does it need a water shield or anything else? thanks

If filtration is a concern you can always buy one without a filter and use your own. The smaller diameter pipe is key to Performance. I dont think a watershield is really necessary just plug up the holes in the plastic in front of the tire.

in order to hydrolock the engine, the entire filter needs to be submerged in water with the engine turned on. The filter on the TPR Intake is angled up and sits slightly higher than aem or injen...for that reason. But now, just getting the filter a little wet doesnt cost problems

Hey Guys I need your help. I read the thread about the hydrolocking on the CAI, & was thinking maybe its better to go with the Injen SRI instead. AEM doesn't make an SRI for the Celica GTS, & so I was wondering if I go with the Injen SRI will that still give me low end torque since the CAI on the AEM would do that. What do you think?
Thanks

Hey bmw52786! ~ honk I will grin

The only thing about the TPR 2kVeilsideGTS is that it isn't CARB approved, but true it may be the better of both worlds. With my luck I will be the one to get the stupid fine. Its too soon to tell exactly which waay I am going to go, but the info here is great.

i drive with a kazuma exhaust. i doubt ima get pulled over and have the cop ask me about my air filter:) but trust me theres like a 1 in a million chance a cop would ask about your air filter. plus you legally don't have to show them shit since its in a closed compartment. thus unless you consent to a search he can't make you pop your hood.

just get a CARB sticker on ebay or someplace if you're worried about a fine, or buy an Injen or AEM afterwards and say to the judge holding up your Intake "See I had this in my car and that MEAN cop gave me a ticket!" grin

And when you're through with the AEM or Injen, just send it back to the manufacturer for a refund claiming it gives a P0171 and permanent check engine light!!! thumbsup

If smog and CARB doesn't hound ya, just get the TPR. Best bet for your money, and it's a SRI and CAI all-in-one.
