I drove up to LA from San Diego last weekend and everything was fine, until the day i try to leave. I was making a sharp U-turn on the street and all of a sudden i hear a suddenpop and then a grinding sound and i couldn't get any power to the wheels. I figured my clutch went out, so i had it towed to the dealer. They called back and told me that my transmission was shot, the axle snapped, and my clutch was worn out. I don't understand how all this could have have happened, i have 50K miles and i don't race very often. Anyone know if there are any issues concerning the Celica's powertrain or anything?

the celicas tranny has been called 'weak' before...but it usually goes out from hard driving/drag racing.

i don't know how your axle could have snapped just from cornering..that sounds kind of funny to me. get a 2nd opinion...it may be correct but it takes a lot to crack an axle (i.e. wreck, usually)...but stranger things have happened before.

on the slightly brighter side..you own an '01 celica with 50k miles..it should be covered by warranty...if your axle snapped from corning then you had a defective tranny/body...and toyota should replace it free of charge.

Yea, the dealer is repairing it all under warranty, except for the new clutch and the lightened flywheel that i'm having them put in. So it's all good. thumbsup
