guys...either just stay with your stock halogens, or go with a real HID kit.
"colored bulbs make you lose "up to" 40% of light output. and if they dont, that means that they are running hotter, and that just means they will burn out faster or worst, even burn away your housing. There is no such thing as a 4100K+ halogen bulb that will burn brighter than a good clear one at the same wattage."
either stay with your stock bulbs, or upgrade to HIDs. I'm sorry if I offended anyone with the "ricer bulb". But the difference is very straight forward, its not too hard to tell if you upgraded to some MTEC bulbs or whatever, because it WILL be dimmer that the stock if you are using the same wattage. My friend has those and you cant see crap in the rain.

they look nice, but someone is a bit cocky... hehe, call me whatever you want, but I dont want people to be misinformed that the blue-tinted halogens is no different from a HID kit. And I just want to point out the risk of using higher wattage bulbs, along with the reduced vision that some other blue bulbs has.

hurryhurry12345 Actually 6000k from my experience in having them is worse than stock... you should have went within the 4100-4300k range Yes white light gets eaten up in bad weather but so does 6000k the yellower the light the more useful it is. HID's rated at 4100-4300k are only purple due to the housing/prjectors/shield NOw if you got the 6000k for the "purple look" fine (like i did 3 yrs ago) but its overally effectiveness is much declined and you get a "purple look" on the road as well

and further more.. placing hid's into a stock celica housing will never give you that purple look with out modifying or going up in the higher color temp ranger 6000k and beyond.. but indeed nice HID's hurryhurry12345 not as good as OEM HID or a custom retrofit but it works although I still say if you wanted the most bang for your buck.. 4100-4300k rang would give you more benefit on the road (no purple of course)

problem is my friend ordered them for me...:(
i wouldve went for the 4300K too...
u said from your experience 6000K is worse than stock? haha, I dont think so...the 6000K puts out less light than 4300K or 5000K, but its still MUCH brigher than stock halogens...
yea, I do recomend 4100K for maximum light output.
stock halogens - 1200 lumens 6000K - 2400 lumens 5000K - 2800 lumens 4100K - 3200 lumens
P.S., anyone want to post some pics of their light output with the stock bulbs for comparison sake? I'll be amazed if the their output is better than the ones I posted...

it's hard to really post pictures of light output as and show them for comparison sake since a lot of factors can add or take away from the image. Unless of course certain factors were condsidered. It would be best if you put back on one of your stock bulbs in and shine it on the street/garage wall as that would give off a better comparison. purple does not do wonders on wet road as compared to amber light.. yes more light from the 6000k but the purple is much darker in comparison to stock. But yes overall stock sucks but my yellow piaa fogs are all i see... Well if it's better for you thats good too bad your friend did the order for you though. My 6000k's purchased 3 yrs ago $700 are now in the closet awaiting to be turned into hid fogs which will emit yellow with modifications to the fog housing hurryhurry12345 well if you want more info on hid's if you haven't already this place is great [ hidforum.com] hurryhurry12345 sorry if there's any bad blood

^^^indeed HID are nice =) yah here's more info on HID's also..if anyone else hasn't seen it yet, in a brief but informative thread read Tony's post https://celicahobby.com/ubbthreads/thread.f_252822_0_collapsed_5__1.htmlor just read here below.. taken from Tony's post from the above thread "I have done a lot of research on this. The best combination is Philips HID bulbs and Hella ballasts.
Hella ballasts are standard OEM on BMW, MBZ, Lexus, etc.
Philips HID bulbs are available in two types: D2S and D2R. The "S" stands for Shield, and the "R" stands for Reflector. D2S are used for cars with projectors housing with Shields. D2R are for non-projectors such as the new 350z. OEM bulbs from Philips are rated at 4100K and 4300K color temperature. Philips also makes a 6000K bulb, but it is illegal to use in the US.
Color temperature at 4100K & 4300K are pure white with the highest output of lights. This is why they are standard OEM choice. Higher color temperature would give you a bit more color (blue, purple), but the light output decreases.
Some people buy HID retrofit kits such as K2, Eagle Eyes, or Misterjungs thinking they just pop it into the Celica's housing and they would be just as bright and pretty as the BWM's or MBZ's. Or they buy the higher temperature kits such as 8000K thinking that it would give them the S2000 look. The truth is that everything has to do with the light housing. The S2000 uses the 4300K bulbs, which shines pure white if you look straight into it. The pretty prism effect (blue/purple) that you see when a S2000 comes down the street is caused by the optical design of the projector, and not the color of the bulbs.
The Celica has free-form projectors. Unfortunately, it does not have shields (light shines everywhere). Fortunately, the Philips D2R bulbs fit perfectly in the H7 slot. How do I know? I have the HID kit from an Infinity G35 with Philips D2R on my car. The D2R bulb has a built-in shield which shields off the sides and the bottom-half of the bulb. This reduces the glare and gives it a much sharper cut-off. And it eliminates the shadows caused by the return wires.
If you want your Celica to look like the S2000 or BMW, the best thing to do is to replace the stock projectors. I found that the projectors from an Audi TT (very small) would fit nicely in our Celicas. These projectors are designed for HID's, and would give you the pretty prism effect. Of course, you would have to take your headlights apart to do this. A complete HID kit with Audi TT projectors, Philips HID bulbs, and Hella Ballast would run about $450. There are companies out there that would do the installation, including HID kit for $800 - $1000. You would have to ship your headlights to them. The whole process would take 3-4 weeks.
Checkout: http://www.illusion-lighting.com/
I started off with the Mcculloch 5300K retrofit kit. It was bright, but the lights were everywhere (lack of shield in our projector). So, I replaced it with the G35 kit. And I am very happy with it. But, it is still not as pretty as the S2000 because our projectors weren't designed for HID's.
Hope this helps. Damn, this has got to be my longest post."

im just here simply to prove you wrong...but also prove you right abt the MTEC. does your PIAA have any blue tint on the bulb? * Same wattage, tinted bulbs = reduced visibility w/ somewhat bluish look * Same wattage, clear bulbs, but better brands = better visibility, but you wont get the HID look...

this is the comments from other owners...
"you wont get an HID look AND be brighter from tinted halogen bulbs (piaa, silverstar, etc). Its physically impossible. Only way to get HID look + brighter = get real HIDs.
other alternatives, those "50% more light" halogen bulbs (clear) that Philips and Osram sells in europe. Not as bright as HID, but brighter than stock (a little), but no HID look."

I don't know what the HUGE deal is about being "brighter".
The MTECHs look much better than stock. Most people don't live in the backwoods where you need your headlights to see the road ahead of you. Your headlights simply are there so that other cars can see you, and I don't care what you say, the "blue/white" look bulbs like MTECH or real HIDs are more noticeable than normal halogen lights.
The only way I can ever envision a 10-20% loss of "brightness" being an issue is in SEVERE weather conditions, in which case HIDs would suck too. Those conditions are the very reason that you would have amber fog lights.

im not saying i got a HID brightness with the PIAA bulbs.
but the PIAA bulbs are brighter than stock, that is for sure.
that is the H7 case. the 9005 case, i had PIAA 4000K bulbs. they are also brighter than stock.
but with the PIAA 4700K bulbs (which i have now) they are dimmer than stock. but they are whiter...which is wut i want for high beam...
wut i want to say is, not all tinted bulbs are dimmer than stock.
*HIDs will always be brighter than regular bulbs. <--this i know already...that's why i have a 7000K HID kit on my car.
oh and by the way...my super ion PIAA H3s are also brighter than stock...
