hehehehehe...I've got an 03 Gt, and have put higher compression pistons, and stronger internals in it to make sure that I can drive my baby for a long time...I just got off the phone with my guy and am thinking about getting another 1zz engine to build again, but with the MWR big bore kit, and whatnot...kind of a nastier backup...I just called my guy and he told me that he wants $2,595.00 + $235 core fee for a new long block (all OEM toyota, not some made to OEM engine) complete with the assembled head on it and everything...you guys tell me, I think it sounded more than reasonable...I think it would be worth it rather than having to think about buying another car sometime...might even take my time and build a boosted engine to scare the hell out of some people ...but like I said...what do you guys think about having, if anything, a backup complete engine ready to drop in, for the $2,600.00 (no shipping charges)?...post it up

i think, as a backup, it's not worth it. if it were something you were ready to drive, then i say go for it. but there are plenty of other things to spend $$ on than a backup engine.
also, you mean oem yamaha, correct? not oem toyota

I meant that its an OEM engine made with toyota parts...and if I didn't build it, then I'd just use it as a replacement as the time came (ready to drive as you said)...this isn't something I'm buying anytime within the near future...I've got other mods I want to play with (like head-porting, the power-Fc, and the catcams cams)...this is just something that's there in case I want to be able to keep driving my celi for an indefinite period of time, while being able to save up for another car, or to have a motor to build for boost without having my car down.

anyone else?...I think I'm looking to build another really strong N/A motor so that I can keep up the daily driveability, and still be able to have fun (not sure if I could be responsible with boost :P)...and like I said...I could take my time building it and not have to worry about having my celica down while I'm having the engine work done...
the motor would look something like this:
MWR big bore kit with Wiseco 11:1 pistons Crower Rods MWR valves and Valves Springs Catcams CAms Ported Head Ignition Solutions coils ARP hardware throughout Apexi Power FC
you guys tell me...even if I don't build it its still $2,600 for a long block with the head already on it (factory motor)...post it up...yay or nay

GT tranny has already broke at 250+ wtq, the stock internals have been able to handle the power its the tranny that cant.
I'd spend my dough if you went f/i on making a stronger transaxle

why are you building 2 engines? it seems a little ass backwards to me personally. Second have you noticed that you WON'T be able to blow the bottom part of a toyota engine unless you try to. Supra engines with 1000+ horsepower and they don't change the bottom half of engine because its forged metal. I was talking to a toyota tech about this. If anything on your car is gonna break its gonna be the top of the motor. but yeah your gonna snap some axles and blow your GT tranny WAY WAY WAY before you blow the bottom of your motor. do a little more research on the toyota/yamaha engine online. search yahoo and just read about the engine before you go dumping tons of money at the wrong things. If any of this came off like sounding like a dick sorry i didn't mean to I just think you should educate your self more before you throw thousands into an engine.

good point...I know the Supra engine had a bulletproof bottom end, but wasn't aware that the zz engines were built with the same style...given I bought a toyota for the fact that they run forever, but like you said...I had no idea that any engine outside of the JZ toyota line had forged bottom end components. and no I don't think any of your commetns were dick at all...that's why I posted it up...to get insight before I waste my money like you said...thanks bro

Food for thought, our old 1990 Camery just bit the big one at 275k, block cracked. Thats a lot of miles and a lot of years on the original bone stock engine. Toyota quality!

yeah well, I think I'll be alright, I built this one and don't plan on taking it to the track to drag race (hence the higher compression, rather than lower for boosting and crazy speed),...I did that with my last vehicle and threw a rod, and cracked the block all in one shot...I just want to get years out of my celi...without having to drive it like an old lady or anything

to tell you the truth, I was gonna get a 1998 RSP supra TT...had the paperwork drawn up and everything (it only had 43,000 miles on it)...my insurance company said yeah right...so I bought my celica...I put a bunch of money into out out of the gate (about 4,000) because I absolutely love the celica now, and I want to make sure I get tons of miles out of it, and not have to worry about driving it easy if I don't have to (I'd like to not have to make car payments some time too )...it was just a thought...

FYI to all the people calling the 1zz engine a "toyota/yammaha" engine...your wrong. yamaha had nothing to do with the 1zz enine. they did however help with the tuning of the 2zz
was....5speed with i/h/e 15.41 @ 89.30mph 2.282 60'
is....04 srt4 stock 13.936 100.15mph 2.177 60'

Taken from a site about the Lotus Elise: "While comparisons of the 1ZZ-GE and 2ZZ-GE are natural since the more mundane 1ZZ-GE was a benchmark for the later 2ZZ-GE, we will focus solely on the higher performing engine. Different bore and stroke measurements and valvetrains mean the two engines end up with different blocks, heads, pistons, valves, cams, rods, cranks, and so on. They are truly different engines with little in common other than a similar displacement and a few general dimensions." http://www.sandsmuseum.com/cars/elise/thecar/engine/toyota.htmlNow this is a car that I'd love to have someday
