Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Someone who knows a lot about Celica suspension...

i think i've finally decided that i'm gonna spend the bulk of my money this summer on doing some heavy suspension work, i've looked ath the hotchkis suspension kit and was wondering if anyone on here could give me some advice as to which way to go with my plans. thanks a lot! (looking to spend ~1500)

tein coilovers
tanabe strut tie bar
hotchkis camber links
hotchkis street sways

1500 is a good base to get coilovers and sways...you're gonna be going through corners like crazy

I have heard of a few problems with the TEIN HA's for the celica. The rear struts keep bustin.

TEIN isn't the only company out there. JIC Magic, Tanabe and B&G are just to name a few. The JIC Magic is way better than the TEINs IMHO. I don't know why everyone likes TEIN so much

Tanabe are great coilovers too, but they're kind of on the expensive side. Tanabe + TRD sway bars = lots of un That might put you over the $1500 budget, but you'll definetely love the ride. You can save for a couple of months after buying that & get a TRD rear strut bar w/Tanabe front strut bar. It'll make your car feel more solid, especialy in the rear.

has anyone on here ever installed that complete hotchkis kit? it's like $1600 bucks, looked good to me, just wondering

the JIC magic coilovers are supposed to be unbelievable and forever durable

You can't go wrong with Hotchkis IMO, they use bilstein internals for there shocks. Bilstein is a very trusted name in shocks and struts, perform great and last forever.

^^^ Really to bad they make nothing for our cars. Gen6 celicas get a kit from them but not us, not yet I hope.

I think JIC makes their suspension too stiff. I don't like it too much. I'd just settle down with TEIN Super Street. I would get the FLEX but they haven't made the model for the 7th Gens yet. Any one know the spring rates on the Hotchkis springs? for that matter, anyone have info on any of the spring rates on these suspension kits? (i already know TEIN's specs)

Tanabe's Sustec Pro SS spring rate is 6.0 kg/mm front & 6.0 kg/mm rear

for serious... the TEIN coilovers suck. If you buy them, ur gonna find out first hand that they break ez and if you call tein up they wont replace it and they will say you cannot replace only the spring and will have to replace the whole coilover. TEIN is not very. They are just well advertised

The spring rates for Jic's FLT-A2 are 6kg/8kg and the coming soon FLT-1US/FLT-A1 have the same spring rates. Tein coilovers don't suck. Their quality is top notch. They don't usualy break. If you call up Tein they will be in disbelief that the damper broke and will replace it if it's a defect under their warranty. If you can afford $1600 and up for coilovers, by all means get Jic. For myself I would rather spend less on a high quality coilover 100% better than stock and add more things like strut bars and anti-roll bars for the price of just Jic's coilovers. Who do you think will handle better for $1600. Jic coilovers or Tein + front or rear strut tower bar, and sway bars? I hear Hotchkis is good. I personally have a problem with Hotchkis. That's just me. The stage 2 TVS I think is a waste of money except for the camber links and sway bars. The stage 3 TVS kit I think is well past $2000 and their coilover system is more than Jic's coilovers and I would rather have Jic. Of course there are coilover kits made by other companies and some basic coilovers made by the ones listed here that are cheaper. Have a headache yet? Good luck on your choices. Any way you go I'm sure you will be more than happy.
