I know the GTS's here in the USA have the 6 speed, and the Gt's have the 5 speed...but I also know from a few of our european brethren that the Gt's over there have 6 speeds...is it possible that the euro spec Gt's and GTS's both have the same 6 speed?, and at that, would it make it possible to put a 6 speed to the 1zz here in the US?...the closer gearing would help the GT's for a little more speed...

i'm pretty sure you could...naturally it won't be cheap but you can do anything. i'm not sure if they are the same tranny, but i would assume that they are...i don't know why toyota would make 2 6-speed trannys for the same car. you'd have to get the whole drivetrain redone though, obviously, not just a tranny swap out.

it's actually a very simple mod, it bolts right up. talk to David Draper at wctoyota.com for details

yeah.. i was planning on doing this mod as well. theoretically, it shouldn't affect your rpm gauge because that deals with engine speed. i think rpm's are only affected when you change the stroke or bore of the engine

eruo spec gt 6 speed has different ratios and a different final drive than the us spec gts 6 speeds.
they have two versions in eruope one 6 speed for gt and one for gts's both with different gearing.

yep..what illusive said. the US spec 6-speed has completely different ratios than the euro spec 6-speed. the euro spec is basically the 5 speed + one extra gear to help out with fuel economy. and dropping the tranny and replacing it isn't exactly SIMPLE.

search on the other celica site, it's been discussed a lot.
it won't affect speedo/tach readouts, and you'll get better fuel economy

More gears, the shorter they are, and the better you can accelerate. As for doing this swap, it wouldn't be as easy as changing your tire. You have to know a hell of a lot about what you are doing, and you need a lift.
