my manual 03' GTS have some weird smell from the engine bay after landing the lift in 3rd & 4th gear. smells like burin rubber of some kind. i think it's around the battery area. this happen 5-6 times, when the car is in neutral, clutch is released, the motor is reving on its own, between 1 - 2K rpm. called the dealer, and as always helpful as they are, they told me that i need to bring the car in when that happens. of course, it happens on nights or weekend when they are closed. anybody know what's going on with this??? thanks~
i think you should bring it in anyway..u still have warranty so who care if it happens when you bring it in or not..just tell them there's a problem with the car and you want it have check out ASAP. if they don't, just write a letter to toyota and one of them will be in trouble for it..hehehe..that's what i did when my 00GTS clutch burned out and they cover half the cost. and the used car sale manager got in trouble for it..i think it was funny, plus i pissed him off too, i don't give a fuck. he can be pissed all he want. Good luck..
Then your frying your clutch. I have many times. A Toyota clutch is stronger than some, but there is a limit. With 75,000 miles I needed to replace mine at least at 70,000. I've smelt that stentch many times. I'm trying to make at least 10,000 miles more out of the stock clutch now that it is sticking and creaking. It still fully engages and slips slightly, but the clutch and flywheel needs to go. Good luck to you. Just take it easy on your car.
my 2000 gts does that self reving thing too, does yours feel like it takes too much gas to get going sometimes? mine does that. I cleaned the mafs and it didnt change much. Ive seen a thing on here talking about that before any one else remember what it was?
