Anyone would know about water leaking inside the car, I have a 2001 GT, For some reason, when i turn the AC on, hot water just start to leak from a little grey box under the passenger side glove box. When i noticed the problem, i stopped the AC and there was some cold smoke like thingy came out from the vent. any help or thoughts would be appreciated... thanks
Just past the warranty, but i think the toyota people in my area would be able to help since i know them pretty well... i wouldn't know until monday...since it just happened...i hope it just some hoses went lose or something...
IT'S NORMAL!!!! that is the condensation dripping out from your evaporator. it is a heat exchanger...
think of a cold pepsi bottle on a hot day, the condensation is forming around the cold bottle, same way in an a/c evaporator system, it has to drip somewhere and usually goes into the cabin through the small tube under the passenger side... try to re-route the liquid coming out by attatching a hose to it and route it elsewhere, you shouldn't worry about it unless its like a huge puddle, if so... then you have problems
I have the same problem for a year and I thought it was rain water leaking in.. I cleaned up all the rain water draining areas and tested it and they all seem to work. And then I took the glove box out and discovered exactly the same thing. . Let me know what your dealer says. I have extended warranty and I am going to try and see what my dealer has to say.
I would know by Monday, will keep on updated and see...but seems like element_celica's makes sense... I hope it just some hoses went lose and easy fix...
Okay, Here is what i've found out from the Toyota Service place... First, they asked me if i have parked my car under a tree everyday...and then they said because of the dirt and debri that my car has been collected, the drain of from the AC is stuck or jammed or whatever...that's y the water going up back into the car instead draining down to the ground... I havent' try the AC since I got the car, but I'll do a little observation for a week and see what happend.. it sounds like cheesy tho...but what da heck, i am try it or test it this week...
for rsh431 -- I think you should bring it back to the toyota service and have them check it out...since it seems like one-two-three thingy to them...and it definitly under the warranty too...
jeeze i have this problem now too it started when i made a sharp turn and all this water landed on my girls feet and her purse.. ouch!! but anyways its dark now and i cant see a fucking thing. hopefully this tube thingy if it exsists just got knocked off. i dont feel like having to pay mula to get it fixed. tomorrow i will post my findings. lemme know what you guys come up with
Half an hour ago, i have tried to turn on my AC, and the problem didn't occur, so i guess it works for now, i will try few more times with AC during the week, and keep you guys update what's going on...thanks for telling me that you have the same problem, at least i am not alone...
Does anyone know where the water from AC/defroster drains out in Celica 2000?
The tree thing might be right. I do park under the tree and over the weekend I cleaned up the area at the junction of wheel well (back side) and the grey lining on the side of the car (under the door). This is where the water drains out from the windscreen and there was a ton of fine dust and leaf veins stuck there.
But I also noticed a small nozzle kind of thing there ( like one of those grass sprinkler heads) sticking out from the body of the car. I am wondering if that is the outlet for AC duct. I am somehow not seeing the leak any more inside my car even though its pretty humid here today. I will drive it for a week and see how it goes. When it gets little warmer and drier here, I will just turn the AC on and see where the water is draining out from.
It happens on a sharp left turn for me. I have been avoiding paying around 150 dollars to the dealer just to diagnose it . Let me know what you come up with.

okay it first did do it on a sharp left turn last night. today i went out to check it out and even parked flat its still dripping but i can tell from where. i too park under a tree but have only had the car for a few months, but this spring shit is dropping pollen everywhere so that could be the case. does anyone have any pictures to go along with their findings? im in a jam its hot as all hell here.
this first picture is where i could actually see water dripping. the entire time my car was running it was in park on a mostly flat surface. the road does sorta slope so it could run from the other side but here is where it was dripping.
this picture is the only tube i can see. do you think its the ac drain tube? if this is it and its clogged how does one go about fixing it? its located on the right side under the glove box and appears to go out in the direction of the right wheel.
okay this is the last picture its the veiw your crotch would see if you were sitting in the pass seat. the red arrow points where water can be seen dripping the yellow points towards the tube. the blue line under the glove box also gets wet like behind the glovebox the plastic. you can feel it if you stick your hand underneath
dude...the first pic is exactly what i had for the leaking...but the rest i don't see any problem with my car yet...but i am still gonna check to see if any water dripping occurs...
and here is what the toyota service had said..
HEAT & AC SYSTEMS CUSTOMER STATES THE AC IS SOAKING THE FLOOR
CLEARD THE DRAINS...
they said because of the dirt and debris that my car has been collected...thats' why it caused the problem...
as i said before...let me optimize this problem for a week more and see what happen..
I actually just called and they said if you bring your car to the mechanic...just tell them the flush the AC drain tube...they said this tube was the problem... once it flushed out the dirt...you car should be fine, also the reason why the water dripping when you made a sharp turn is because of the tube itself is pretty close to the grey box as shown from vondutchguy's first photo..
the service didn't tell me which tube is exactly is which... but i guess the mechanic would know, coz the service guy told me if a mechanic wouldn't know where is the AC Drain tube, he would be in big trouble, and also it should be easy to fix it too.
I found one black tube which is draining water out of AC (I think).
If you un-button the left top end of the mattress on the passenger side (near the hose where the hot air comes out for legs), there is a black hose in my car which goes through the body of the car. I pulled it a bit and released it again and I saw a whole lot of water draining out from the middle of the car. It actually comes out all the way out if you want to pull it out and put it back in. I hope there was nothing else attached to its other end - didn't look like it.
i have had my ac off because i havent had a choice to get the tube cleaned by my mech. but water seems to still be dripping. but it was also raining too. this sucks i need to get it fixed asap.
Remeber to turn the air outlet knob away from defogging windscreen options (two of them). Those automatically run the defroster of the car even though you will not see the AC light on.
The condensation from the defroster will make it to the AC drain.
It kind of sucks because you need the defogger to defog all the water that is inside the car, but at the same time defogger keeps making more water which leaks inside the car.. ..
I figured out where this tube goes. Its going to the rear windscreen and carries the windscreen washer liquid!! So I guess this has nothing to do with AC.
well i heard from a friend of mine that you one was is to shoot compressed air up the tube. my mech told be you need to put it on a lift because the tube empties out the bottom and you squeez it to clean the leaves or whatever out. the tube is black and you can see it if you pop the hood and look behind the engine. when i get a chance tomorrow i will jack my car and see what i can do. if not i will take it to his shop and he said he will do it for free.
