Well, i am having one heck of a time deciding what to buy. i have always LOVED Celicas and would love to have one, but i feel that their life is close to an end. How some of you talk how Toyota doesnt put enough focus toward the Celica, and how some of you just think about selling them, it makes me steer away from it. The main reason i am asking you guys and gals is because you seem the most down to earth, knowledgeable, and nicest people i have seen on any car forums. I just graduated today, and i am planning on getting a new car sometime. Although this is a Celica website and i have been a member for quite sometime but just havnt posted, just for the sheer fact i am a huge fan of Toyota and Celicas, i was wanting to get some opinions. The cars on my list are a Scion TC, or an RSX Type S. I know most all of you are Yota fans, and would say the TC, but the Type S is very nice. Its either a 5 speed, 160 hp, and 160 ft.lb.of tq., for around 17 grand,(TC) or a 6 speed 200 hp with around 140 ft. lb. tq. for about 23 grand (Type S). Add the TRD Supercharger to the TC and you got 200 hp for around 19 grand. Can any of you help me decide? Thanks in advance!

I know you don't want me to say you should get a Celica but I'm gonna say it anyways.. get a celica smile like you said.. you love the car as most of us here do.. sure some people are talking bout getting rid of it.. makes me wonder to some times.. and who cares toyota isn't giving a fuck... would be nice to have more support from them aswell as from TRD tough but still.. they DID build the car.. I love it smile always will even tough there also other car's I'm interested in like the 350Z.. but I just can't afford that car right now smile and to be honest the celica does look better wink it just lacks in the power a bit.. but since the Celi is gonna be your first car (correct me if I'm wrong) you shouldn't worry bout horse power that much.. it still is one powerfull car.. especially if you're not used to it smile

Type-S I guess, you just get more car. Well, drive both and see what you like. Lots of reasons to get either, if you take someone elses opinion, you may not like it.

Thanks god that they will stop focusing on Celicas, that way, only the chosen few will drive em, not like Civics, hehe.

But out of those choices, I would have to go with the RSX-S, but really tho, do you really wanna head down that road? The body style looks somewhat similar to Celicas, why not a GTS? Looking pretty good...tempting...tempting...

of those choices, i would go with the RSX because it at least has some styling to it.
unlike the scion, where it's designers just took a bare block of modeling clay and added wheels to it.

The Celica has been a Toyota mainstay for over 30 years.

I doubt they are going to stop making it.

I have to agree with most people...get a Celica. I love mine. Who cares if Toyota doesn't focus on it as much as its other cars...it's still a great car.
Again..recapping...if you don't get a Celica, get the RSX-S. That would have been my next choice.

Well, since i do actually want a Celica the most, i guess i will aim towards it. Its a little pricy for me, but i can try. Another question, whats with the Toyota website when you go to build a non action package GTS and it starts at 22k something, then after you pick your color, it automatically jumps up to like 25k because of the required package you have to buy? Anyway, what Norway said, i want a good handling, highly modifiable, decently fast car that i can have forever. I would also love to take it to the track every once and a while, preferabely a circuit track, not so much a strip. Thanks again guys!

I would say a celica.

Scion is puke but they have good backing by Toyota (for now). but you will see tons of them on the street like the civic.

RSX-S is pretty much on the same boat as Celica. They are not getting much backing from Honda and at the end of their life.

i stand corrected.
the TC doesn't look too bad.

Get the RSX for a luxury car feeling.

Get the Celica for raw Performance.

If Performance doesn't mean a lot to you, then go with the Type S.

I would get the celi. I think it looks better than the rsx. Although I just saw that...GTS 160whp and type S 174.5whp. If your looking for power RSX, looks GTS. smile

scion tC:
very nice looking car. looks like they are gonna have a lot of mods for it that is going to be dealer option. if they have the xB with aem cold air Intake as a factory option, im sure theyll have it on the tC. the car really looks nice. but this car is competable with the honda civic coupe. it looks better than the civic, performs about the same, even better with a factory supercharger. the gauges and everything inside looks nice and simple clean look. its 5 speed, and it weighs more than the other cars.
overall: good car if you want to drive for fun and look good in it and enjoy it. reliable and worth the money. possible Performance upgrades later on (maybe an engine swap)

acura rsx-s:
very nice car. exterior shape is all smooth with circle headlights with matching tails. interior smooth, clean and simple. very driver friendly. smooth engine, aftermarket part friendly. this car has big aftermarket support that keeps growing. very smooth, driver friendly transmission with smooth shifts. red LED lighting the interior with nice looking gauges. this car is great for people who just want a nice looking coupe, easy to drive, and willing to rev high if they want to. or else its good for others who want to modify it to hell. modify it hardcore to beat people in straight streets or tracks. handles like a tank with a stock front strut bar under the hood. weights 2767lbs. and got 200hp(average of 165whp). sporty-luxury.

toyota celica gts:
competitor against the rsx-s. unlike the acuras model, celica's exterior body is all edgy with mean looking headlights and simple tails. the celicas looks just screams aggressiveness especially with the trd kit. the car is smaller, shorter than the rsx-s with a bit smaller interior and everything closer to ur hands. interiorwise, everything is put together close to each other. interior is nice with a sporty, aggressive looking steering wheel. celica's shifting is more aggressive and not as friendly as the rsx-s. it is just more hardcore, linkage are close to each other, movements are less, putting it in a gear doesnt feel as smooth as the rsx-s(u feel the gear just going in the right hole on the acura). once you get used to the shifting though, you notice that it is only sportier and more aggressive. when shifting, the celicas rpms drop more than an rsx-s. eventhough the linkage are closer and shorter shift throws, you have to practice to shift quicker. revs upto 8350rpm stock(rsx-s revs up to 8100rpm). the celica engine seems to be more aggressive while the rsx-s is more flexible. rsx-s gets more gains by aftermarket parts and acts more friendly with them(most of them). celica looses less bhp from the drivetrain (from 180 to 160+whp). celica handles way better than an rsx-s without strut bar.

before you buy, you have to answer these questions:
(the tC is not in the same category of these cars)
1- what do you want from the car?
2- what do you want ur car to be good at?
3- do you want ur car to be rare or dont care?

rsx being 2 years old car out on the streets is more than the celica, and if not, people know about it and they dont know about the celica that is 4 years old. do you want to be fast on straight or wut? how bad you wanna modify ur car? if its just the regular mods like Intake, exhaust and headers, then celica has these. a celica WILL look better if modified. do you want to have more chance to beat people on the streets revving at you or do you want to drive some car that does turns like crazy? there both head turners, different head turners. in my opinion, celica is more of a drivers car, and the rsx-s is more the car. the driver has more control on the celica, better handling, has to shift better and more precise. there both exotic in a way, maybe rsx looks more exotic, but the celica Performance is more exotic: lightweight, good handling, simple, small... i would prefer flying by ppl on turns and not churp and then everyone would be "wtf, is he driving a bike, how can he go this fast?" for me its about Performance handling, controling the car. wut can you do with a car with too much power that handles like shit?(im just saying it in general, but i dont mean that to the rsx)
after reading this, you SHOULD have a decision made.

I think I'm going to bite some people's heads off. Now, I have nothing against you if you're a long-time Toyota lover, but come on now.

Whoever said the Celica is a better performer than the Type-S really should have his head checked. I'm sorry, but 200 bhp > 180 bhp (at the cranKz0r). The RSX Type-S = luxury? What in the hell are you talking about? It comes stock with racing seats. *boggle*

also comes stock with an ultra soft suspention. its also a heavier car, and at the wheels in has just a few more horses than the celica resulting in a better hp/weight ratio for hte celica

The K-series (RSX / RSX Type-S) motors react very well to mods wink.

K-series swaps are on the rise in Hondas... It's only gonna get worse tongue. I'm over and done with arguing about the cars, now it's time to argue about the engines tongue.

Anyone have the code and weight of the Celica motor? I know the K-series motors in the newer Hondas weigh less than the reigning B-series... and the B-series is the most popular motor in the Honda world. Also, comparing i-VTEC and regular VTEC is different as well. Ordinary VTEC has 2 different lift settings, while i-VTEC's lift change constantly depending on what RPMs you're operating at. (more than 2 profiles)

Bleh, I guess I went off topic. I'm comparing apples and oranges here. Discount everything I said above :>. But one thing we can do is compare the weight and power output of the two motors.

2ZZ-GE vs K20A2 (kind of stupid to compare these two, as the 2ZZ-GE has 1.8L (1796cc) of displacement, while the K20A2 has 2.0L (1997cc) of displacement)

The compression ratios are almost the same (GTS = 11.5, Type-S = 11.0). The redlines are damned near the same (GTS = 7800, Type-S = 7900) Bore and stroke (GTS = 82.0x85.0mm, Type-S = 86.0x86.0mm) - larger bore and stroke, more displacement/torque/power. Now... all you need to compare these two is the same chassis to run both motors on. smile

"whoever said the Celica is a better performer than the Type-S really should have his head checked"
did i say that? and if i did, look how i said it.

"I'm sorry, but 200 bhp > 180 bhp (at the cranKz0r)"
who gives a shit about the crank when ur really not getting that power. 5whp is basically nothing if one car is 267 heavier than the other.

"The RSX Type-S = luxury? What in the hell are you talking about? It comes stock with racing seats."
did you also know that it comes with sporty looking gauges and is a sports coupe? i said sporty-luxury. comparing to the celica, celica is sporty-aggressive look with cutting edges body style while rsx is more curvy, rsx has more room inside, is higher, more comfortable.

btw, im not a toyota lover. i like any car that is good, anything that is good. my friend got an rsx-s and i enjoy it everytime im in it and it is an awesome car and i believe the rsx-s can slightly beat the gts with driver equally skilled
