pros: makes the car look better. improved handleling if you get a nice set of tires.
cons: acceleration is a little slower, bumpier ride, gotta watch out for pot holes, hard to tell when you have a flat 'cuz the sidewall is really thin.
17s are the MAX size you want if you feel like racing. You will feel a difference going from 15" to 18", a bad difference. The GT doesn't have enough torque to spin that much wheel effectively.
I see no pros for putting a 18" wheel on a GT unless you have a supercharger or Turbo. 17's will look just as good and 15's or 16's with a drop the same or better. Unless you are trying to impress someone (In that case 19" or 20") forget it. Save your money and get a good 17" or below light weight wheel and tire combo. I would hate to give the Civic turtle comparison again.

In the pic it had my 19" se7en mods and no spacer. I got 2" hub centric billet adapter/spacers made for my new setup.
I also refinished my roof and hatch in real carbon fiber so the car appears 2 tone paint froma distance. Car will be the same sunburst orange and run 12-15 psi on a garett T28 ball bearing liquid/air intercooled setup on 9:1 compression
GT is not going to be fast anyway if it is not Turboed.
Plus Celicas were not meant to be drag racing cars.
18's give it a NICENICENICE LOOK!
Ehh... sure, the 18's may look nice, but you'll lose Performance.
If you plan on autocrossing or road racing at all, go with 17"s. If you don't? Well, go with the 18"s. I'm just telling you, proven that 17"s outperform 18"s. (race cars that ride on 20" rims don't count, their suspension is tuned for the little sidewall )
Personal Preference man. I'm gonna get 17's and add a Hotchkis TVS (probably stage 2 but maybe stage 3). The combo of dropping it and adding 17's fills out the wheel well nicely. But just like everyone else said, its all a matter of personal preference and what purpose you have for the car.
Dam KrazyKustomz, post pics of the cougar when you paint it. Ive never seen a widebody cougar, infact, I havent seen ANY modded cougars, cept for at Hot Imports Nite lastnight.
i didn't go directly to 18" from stock. i first had the stock 16" then changed over to 17" and then finally 18" rims. so, i didn't really feel the big performance drop 'cause i inched my way up to the 18" rims.
driving with the eighteens i gotta gas it more (gts). drove another member's car the other week (he's got 16") and there is a noticible difference in performance making me wish i had stuck with the stock size.
i'd go with 18's. they look ten times better. can anybody show me the difference in 17's and 18's. there is 1" difference. ya'll make it sound like you add 20 hp and 20 ft. lb. of torque with 17's. i think that's funny. maybe ya'll aught to tell tuner transformation your secret.
pro: looks better higher top end (MAYBE) con: BIG BIG BIG and i sad BIG stress on everything connecting to the wheel (tranny, brake, engine...ect) slower acclerating
I just got 18's. Will I need to get a new set of bigger brakes? BUt damn they r so heavy and good as looking. I didnt know how heavy they were. They are 45 pounds each. Does any body know how heavy a 15 inch celica stock tire and rim weight?
