They said i should get a car before i get a celica. I found a nice one for 11,500. But my parents are thinking more like 5,000 for a first car. Incase i get into any accidents. And so i can learn how to drive stick. If you had 5,000 and wanted a car. What kind of a car would you get? I'm looking for something like. maybe a prelude an eclipse or a 300ZX. eh i dont know though. maybe there is an older car that i like as much as the celica and i just havent seen it yet. So what kind of car would you buy.

Depends on whether you'd rather have an older car with the features and Performance you like, or a newer car with more basic features.

You can get a Celica, Prelude, 300ZX, etc., for $5000, it just may be older than a $5000 Ford Focus, Nissan Sentra, Toyota Corolla, Mazda Protoge, etc.

Get a Nissan 240sx because it's it is a front engine, rear wheel drive setup(FR). You'll learn great driver control. Don't bother with a front engine, front wheel drive (FF).
You'll thank me later

I *DARE* you to call any DC2 ITR owner a ricer. If anything, all the Celica's I've seen on this site are nothing but rice.

Fashion > Function = Rice... oh, and let me remind you. 7th gen Celicas are NOTHING but fashion > function.

if your not really worried about Performance yet, get a 94-99 celica gt or 94-00 integra gs or gs-r, they hold value well at higher milages for future resale.
I would say a 240, but around me they are too hard to comeby not auto or totally price-gouged.

Dont get an eclipse unless you want best speed for the buck, cause you'll just run into problems and many necessary repairs. POS's

get a V8 camaro/firebird grin
they handle well and will put some respect for crappy conditions into you the first time you spin in wet weather.

plus the older ones are built like tanks, it would take a big hit to hurt you in one.

to tell you the truth ill go with a 6 th gen or 5 th gen celica GT.

learn to drive stick and burn clutch out. instead of buying new clutch pic up a 3sgte motor 185 hp or so and drop it in. now you have your self a functional sleeper.

7th gen GT guy: is that a celica
YOU: yeah it only has a 5s motor smile
7th gen GT guy: hmm lets run them.
YOU: ok BAM! Turbo spools and your off like a bat out of hell!

OR you can just get a stick toyota tercel beat the crap out of it and then get a different car they are only like low 2g's

wait ur parents dont want you to get a celica... why would they want you to have an mr2 Turbo, or an elipse... just dont let them watch fast and the furious with you... then all they will let you have is a ford taurus (not a bad first car)

just make sure you get a standard transmission... then you can learn the ropes... and you wont kill a fancy car... plus you will learn to "really drive"

i suggest: A pick up truck... or a small sedan... all cars come in standard transmission... you just have to look for them

They dont care about speed. They just dont want me to total a car that i still have a loan out on from my dad. SO i'll be paying off a loan and not evne haev a car. So they figure i'll get like a prelude or something to learn stick in. Then i'll sell it and get a celica in like a year if tahts what i still want.

$5000 it's a good budget... all depends what do you want? Performance or look...

Don't get the eclipse rolleyes
Prelude is ok..

If you want both Performance & look ... I'd go for the 300zx (actually I have one) grin
It has excellent suspension
Rear Wheel Drive
up tp 230 hp (turbo)
Fast & Fun to drive...
IMO Good looking car...
What do you think? wave
You can get a 89 w/low mileage...
if you want a newer, 300zx gonna cost you around $8k
or go for an acura integra... rolleyes

My dad was gonna spend $6,000 tops on a car for me.

I ended up, getting him to put that 6k and 2k i had saved up, to throw down on a 2000 GTS, which I'm making payments on now. $130 a month. I talked my dad into it, and said that since i have a good job, it will help me build credit.

Eh. Dad's liking the hondas. I dont know why. But hey. Preludes aren't too bad. I'll just look around for one of them. I'd like to get a black one. but i'm still going to keep my eyes open for a celica. I used to be stubborn about getting a GTS. Hell now i'll get a GT. Yeah about the prelude. Theres two models. Theres the base and the SH. The SH has better handling but it has more problems and harder to mod. So i guess i'd just go with the base model right? Is the handleing that much better? I might go down to the shore next weekend w/ my dad. i'll get him down there saying i'l go fishing w/ him. N then lok at cars. They've got a lot of car places down there. I still got a while before i get my license.
