No one here, on on other forums really seems to appriciate their car very much at all.
All I ever hear about is how "Oh, the Celica is so slow" "The Celica is an economy car" etc. etc.
I am in the market for a slightly used car and seriously considering a 7th gen, as I have a 5th gen right now that I think is very fun to drive.
Why do you all dislike your car so much? It seems to me that the Celica is the best value, most reliable, best looking car I can find in the price range.
I can't find any other car for 13-14k that would deliver the fun a Celica would.
So, comments?

I think it's because the thing LOOKS like it should have 300+ HP with our body. It's just a very agressively styled car, and lets be honest... we all want it to be a little faster. The 6-speed GTS can be a very quick car, but it just isn't the pin-you-to-your-seat type of car some people like.

I think it is the same 2-3 people that keeps posting about how slow their Celica is.
But 99% of us loves this car. I sure do. I used to drive a 7th gen Celica, and now that I have a chance to purchase another car, I am going back to a 7th gen Celica. I have tried it, tested it, and ended up loving it.

the celica is not the FASTEST car. but then again, it is not meant to be. but it is by no means "slow". just look at lucky_317's sig, and you'll see how "slow" this 1.8 liter economy car is.

It's a trade-off. The Celica is the kind of car you can drive pedal to the metal almost all the time, which is great fun. I tried that with my brother's 300ZX twin Turbo once, which was awesome but mostly useless. On a recent two thousand mile round trip I got 33mpg. That was nice with the cost of gas close to two bucks per gallon. The Celica is a look-at-me kind of car, too. When I bought mine 3 years ago the decision came down to the Integra RSX and the Celica. The Celica's styling won out. You'll never compete with a 350Z, but so what? And slow? On my trip I really had to pay attention to keep it at or below 80mph.

It is not only the looks that get me, but the handling as well.
My Celica handles pretty nicely so I'd imagine that a 2,500 lb version and uprated suspension must be tons better.
I think I might go with the GT over the GTS, as I really don't see the need for the extra 40 hp. Getting to a stop light or up to the speed limit faster than someone else really doesn't appeal to me.

Just remember... the 5-speed GT is faster than the automatic GTS. A good compromise might be a manual GT.

the celica still has that concept car design that scream high hp ratings and we get stuck with 180...still we're not slow nor fast, altho lucky gives us hope...the ones that talk trash are just jealous

it depends of what you are looking for in getting a car, good looks, reliability, fun to drive, hp, ...etc. for me i didn't even think twice about it. i just went to the dealership and got it. i swear i didn't even consider other cars. of course at the time i got it the 350 z wasn't out( if it was i would have thought about it) but here again the price difference.. the celica is a good car( not that fast) but looks good as hell. the way i look at it why get a car with a 300+ hp if you are going to use it for daily driving. what's the point?? i bet you you 'll get tired of it after a while. you don't race every day on top of that it's very tempting and it might get you in trouble not to forget the insurance rates. so unless you go to the track often i don't see the point of getting a fast car. the only reason most people get fast cars is for bragging rights. look at the neon for example. no matter how much hp they put on that ugly car i won't even consider buying it. the outside as well as the inside suck. what's the first thing people look at when buying a car( outside),reliability and economy. think of it in the long term. if you want a car that will last you longer and looks good get the celica. if you want a car that's fast get you a wrx or an evo. ( forget about the neon just kidding. the bottom line is what you like and not what people think about your car. if you love the car just get it and don't pay attention at what people say. what you may like , might look ugly to nother person and vice versa. just my 2 cents as for the gas/mileage claim. i don't think the 5 speed gt is the worst one. you need to know that it depends of how you are driving it . if you driver always on high rpms of course you will burn gas as fast ... the best thing to do is to always try to get it to 5th gear as soon as possible. believe it or not i barely use the third gear on my daily driving . i always shift from second to fourth to fifth. try it and let me know. also the only bad thing about a stick shift is that when you drive in a jammed place and you need to shift and downshift often that burns more gas other than that if you are on the highway just put it on fifth gear and forget about it. bottom line it's depends of how you are driving it . i've been driving stick shifts for 12 years now and i love it. what do you think about my new photoshoped rims. or

indeed very true ^^ Makes me want to really keep the celi and trade my auto for a stick and again.. The celica is why i got into cars and the #1 stunner video =) you know.. the one with all the cars.. sung by the Big tymers... =P Here's my top ten reasons to get a celi1. looks 2. Toyota reliability 3. Resale value 4. legacy ? ... celica supra 5. insurance rates over other sports cars..ie 350z.. 6. holds 3-4 people comfortably sorta 7. handling rocks 8. speed is perfect for daily driving 9. truck space is phenominal makes me think its a station wagon (hmmm i could probably get an old one in the future and turn it to a celica truck) 10. and price Need we say more for a car perfect for daily use 3 cheers for the celica hip hip...

well hey man.. i love the celica eversince the 7th generation came out. im just here carrying out the legacy that my dad started. he had an 86' gts. i believe its the 4th generation celica. my sister got a 02' gts and me im getting a 04' gts. see my family loves toyota. haha! funny but like we got 3 cars that are toyota outside the house. 4runner, tacoma, previa, and soon to be celica. so the celica is the best car for me.

Celicas were not meant to be Drag cars. The have good acceleration, great handling, and that makes it really fun to drive. Styling is phenomenal, looks better than almost all imports. If you're looking for a drag car, Celica ain't it. If you want a car thats a blast to drive, is still faster than most, and looks like a million bucks. Did I mention its a blast to drive? BOOYAH!@!
