yes.. 9000+ RPM... I was racing my buddy's GTi.. and I mishifted from 3rd (8000RPM) to 2nd!!! for a second there I saw the needle at 9000!! I quickly shifted to 4th.. the car is running fine but since this incident my engine is making a ticking sound.. its not that loud, other people dont notice it until i tell them about it.. but its very noticable for me. trust me guys i was so heart broken after this happened...

the drive is perfectly fine right now.. but I can't stand that sound.. obviously something is not right.. what do you guys think happened and what should i do???

maybe you blew a valve spring or twisted a piston or something, damn that sucks, you need to be more careful to the car, take it to a shop, let them take a look at it, wat you should do is stop trying to race it, Celicas are not racing machines, take it easy bro, hope things are not bad for u, good luck

i'm thinking it might have been there before but you may have not noticed it till now? when i first got the car it didn't make any noise, perfectly quite. but after about 1500 miles on the new engine it has been making that noise since. i don't think it is just me, but maybe the dealership is blowing me off because i'm a girl?

you may jsut not have noticted it before because you weren't looking for it but when you hit the 9k line you told yourself something has to be wrong so that was the thing

might havebent a valve and its tapping does the noise get louder/faster as rpms go up ?

I did the same thing in my gts, totally blew the top of my engine, computer print out showed the RPM's at 10,026 eek eek eek. But luckly the 00-01 GTS it is a factory defect ( that is why the 02+ have a different red line) so it should be covered by warrinity. and if it is not scream lemon law and they will take care of it. That is what i had to do. $4500.00 repair done under warrenity.

thumbsup thanks lol

you are VERY lucky your oil pump didnt explode. That is the most common result of an over rev. you'll want to have it checked out just in case.

Yes, I cracked mine in half by an over rev. You should have seen it. Thats bad news. May have bent valves. I would get it checked out asap. good luck.

everyone messes up during racing! If we all kept focus on driving and shifting, no one would have bent valve springs or oil pumps blowing up. i don't understand.

everytime i take off, i never mis-shifted or over-rev'ed my celica. Don't treat your car like shit bro!

What do you mean by saying that 00-01 GTS are defective??

I just got a used 00 GTS, what problems should I be looking for?

I just recorded a clip.. the car was cold.. so just try to ignore the Intake noise.. you can barely hear the ticking frown in the video..

thanks for the input guys.. i will take it to toyota and just complain about the sound..

joylover24, did you mean that this is covered under the regular warranty or is it like a recall? coz i am at 63K miles.. so i dont have warranty any more.

where the fuck did you bring that "breaking news" from?
02 has a lower rev limiter, but 03+ have the regular rev limit just like the other years. the 02 has a lower rev limiter for some reason that noone knows. i guess they did it so it wont wear out the lift bolts too much, but then they redesigned the lift bolts

This is a "lift bolt". That could happen to you, cos they are weak and if piston hit valves this is the first thing brakes. Easy to check if you remove the valve cover and touch the bottoms of this "bolts". Also a compression test would be usefull to see if there is any other demage in the head.

I've seen a block where the connecting rod sliced a H into the side of the block from ejecting the rod right out the side due to an over rev.

they are very destructive to your engine, I woulnd't drive it if that happend to me and I'd have it towed to the dealership.

while you may think your tach was at 9K shifting at redline in 3rd going into second would put your rpms much further past 9K even if you "think" you caught it in time.

Take it to a dealer explain what happend, and pray they'll look at it for you, and if somethings wrong that the'll fix under warranty

Yup, same exact thing happened to me. Except, my car died right then and there. Wouldn't start back up. Now I've been without my car for almost 7 months. Had to get a lawyer to get it fixed. I should finally get it back next week. I fucked the engine all up. cry I'm so excited too. I should get my car back right before I get my lambo hinges. grin

you might as well tell them about the over rev. if you dont they will just say its a normal sound,( whitch it is..mine does it to)and not do anything. and if they decide to open up the engine and find a bent valve they will know you over reved anyways. frown
