Some encounters between Performance vehicles on the highways and byways end in the participants flashing a thumbs up to the other guy, some with the middle finger.

Is there an unspoken code that governs this?

For me there is a big difference between somebody rolling up beside me and giving a nod vs. coming in like a missile veering away only inches from my back bumper for the ricer flyby.

Its about your attitude too. If they respect your car, your driving, and your attitude, then you and them are gonna be all smiles. If they're doing a riceboy flybye, then you're never going to get a thumbs up- because they EXPECT to win, and if they do, then they dont care about you, and if they don't, they'll pissed.

On purpose or not, I always got the best reactions when you win and lose. IE, win the first time around, then he wins, etc. Everyone wins, you're all happy, thumbs up all around. If you constantly spank him tho, he's not in the mood (and will probably pull a left or right turn out of their ass). Also, if YOU constantly lose to a car that you dont think is worthy of losing to, YOU'RE gonna be an ass about it- I am! smile

Unfortunetly, the city I live in, Mission Viejo, is too cool to be rice. Street races happen when you line up next to a car, and you both just "happen" to go at the same time with your pedal to the ground. Eye contact is STRICTLY avoided. Bumping your sound system so you can't hear them even if they wanted to be friendly, is ENCOURAGED. lol

i usually give the thumbs up, when i see a car that's worth it. If it's some rice boy, i look over and put a smile on my face and ride side-by side untill he acts like an idiot then i back out.

you can usually tell who is gonna be an ass and who is gonna be cool before any contact is made. there is a certain amout of respect that always flows between people who do things right, people that take the time to find out what they really want and then find the best way to do it. as opposed to those who hit auto zone up every couple of weeks for all ther mods.

For me, a street race is balls to the wall all out driving for your life following a car or someone following U. Till this day I have yet to pull up to a stop and have someone else that wants to race 1/4 mile style. Except for that BMW. It's all about the flyby and the chase for miles. Also around here it's all about the back roads and you can see those "mothers" coming a mile away in your rear view. When they are on your bumper, then it's all out, all the way, until someone turns or gets blown away. That's how I raced many many different cars and whatever. I never see their face. By the way, I'm not condoning any form of street racing.
