Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior Injen Short Ram Installed... question

Just Installed my Injen Short Ram... its now 3:20am had to drive after it was in!! soo yeah Intake loud... i defintely like it!! I am however missing the 1540 mounting braket... the bit that actually mounts the Intake to the car... have to talk to the shop on monday. Feels pretty secure right now though...
So question does anyone else who has this Intake notice lift to be somewhat less noticable??? Not to do with noise but just the increase in power?? So yup thanks

i don't know why lift would be any less powerful, granted i have AEM CAI, but i actually thought that it made lift more powerful and louder.

I have Injen Short Ram, but can't answer. I have a GT. I did get pretty good gains from it though. Definately noticeable. And i LOVE the sound. Louder than expected.

Cold air Intake is mainly a sound difference, all the THIRD PARTY dynos I have seen give it at most a 1hp gain.

i got INJEN SRI on my GTS. i dont think i noticed any decrease in power when i hit the lift.. plus the Intake sounds mad nice when you hit the lift.. gets much louder.

Yes. The reason is that often the lengths and bends of the CAI offset the gains of the cold air. There is one way around this...and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who cares about show: cut a hole in your hood, mount a hood scoop and pressure seal it to your short ram Intake. This theoretically should give the most gains of any Intake.

Short Ram Intakes make very little power and are mainly used for show and sound. Cold Air Intakes make more power than that (ive posted 3rd party dynos of my Intake making almost 8 whp thru out the RPM band). Bends, length and temp are all key factors to determine an Intakes power gains on most cars, however in our cars the MAF reading has A HUGE amount of impact.

Not all Short Ram Intakes make very little power. You're leaving out a Short Ram Intake that gets cold air. You can say that's also a CAI, but you can't say that's not a short ram Intake.

i have one and i definetly noticed a increase in horsepower...kinda need to actually have a shortramn Intake or any Intake at all before you make assumptions Easy_C...

Well im speaking from a literal basis. CAI = cold air, regardless of pipe length.

SmutasticGT, i have dynos of my car with an Injen short ram and TPR short ram...so its not an assumption

ok, that's fair, so you were just assuming that a SRI can't get any cold air, or believe that's part of the definition. No prob...

got one, i don't notice any power difference. then again, my car other also have SRI that does nothing for me. the sound is there though...

Just in case it might be of interest to anyone: Since I was getting a carbon fiber hood, I did a little experiment with my stock hood and cut a gaping rectangular hole in it right where the filter of the SRI was. I also made a cold air box out of sheet metal around the filter to shield it from engine heat. Too bad I didn't dyno the result, because it felt like I gained 20 hp especially when at speed on the freeway and downshifing and hitting lift. I felt an enormous difference just from cutting the hole and making the box. Actually I had it set up so that the air curved and was rammed into the filter. Unfortunately I had the feeling I was running very lean...so in order to fully take advantage of this setup, I needed a fuel management system tuned to it. Everyone tells me not to, but I'm tempted to buy a carbon fiber hood scoop and somehow attach it to my carbon fiber hood. BTW, I now have a custom CAI which uses 2.5" piping for the MAF, but I don't feel the same power as when I had the Short, Cold, Ram Air Intake (SCRAI).

I had, AEm, Injen, And now my TPR, TPR is the best of 3 i wasted enough money to know.
