Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior NEED UNDERPLASTIC HELP ASAP...

A recent trip to Palm springs had a pretty big mishap, long story short - I need new underplastics ASAP...all of mine are completely ruined...Where is the cheapest place to get new ones?? Straight from Toyota?? Aftermarket?? Any Toyota dealer in LA area that can get em for cheaper?? Please help...thanks.

You might wanna call the local junk yards and see if they have any Celicas there. Buying them from Toyota is extremely expensive, and you'd be better off trying to make your own.

On another note, I havn't put back on my passenger side panel due to the fact that I took it off for my last oil change, and I'm too lazy to put it back on. Should be ok, there is just a slight roar from the wind at high speeds (80+ mph).

You can definately drive the car without them. It's just not as aerodynamically friendly, and it leaves the serpentine belt and oil pan a little more exposed, but oh well.

How about just taking them off? I'm sure they help protect the engine compartment, but how bad could it be if they weren't there? My only suggestion is to trim it so that the wheel well plastic remains (since it is all connected).

you can also get the metal C-one plastics replacement, but i bet that's more than you wanna spend

I believe a lot of Celica owners are in the same boat as you. I myself included. Depending on your missing or destroyed plastics, the C-One piece could do the job if you want to shell out the cash. You could have something fabricated for less that would at least cover those areas up. I myself have gone back to Toyota for an oil change or what not and brought the lose mangled piece of plastic and said to them put this back if you can. They have done a good job adding a metal bolt and a plastic fastener (like a nut kind of) on the backside of the plastics all round. It doesn't look pretty under my car with torn plastics, holes upon holes where the fasteners use to be, and those bolts don't look pretty either. Who the hell is going to look under my car other than myself or a mechanic taking those plastics off which isn't difficult with the bolt. I don't care as long as things are covered up. Aerodynamics doesn't seem affected one bit either. Maybe some, but who here is going to drive at speeds of 100 ++ for an extended amount of time. If you are concerned then spending the money for the C-One shouldn't be a problem.

I drove my GT for 1 year without the underplastic thing because those asses at Oil Changers did not put them back on correctly so it started dragging like crazy on the Freeway one day.

But yeah, no sound diff., no damage as of yet.

it really doesnt matter if they are on or off. they just help keep whats up top clean.

It's easy to say that living in CA and I know the original post was from CA. I want the protection on my lowered Celica that the under plastics give. I have to deal with more extremes than you, so I put those on or I get a replacement. For months out of the year I have to deal with ice, salt, snow, sand, and the like. I would like to keep that stuff out of my engine bay and car, especially the salt and sand.

where can you buy the C-one replacement?

aight, well I live in LA...is it a concern?? what about when it rains?? what about on unpaved roads?? should I be concerned on freeways?? pretty much what I"m asking is if I definately need to replace it.

If you have a CAI I would recommend buying them. I didnt want to buy my plastics again when they ripped either but I just got my car back from a hydrolock on the turn pike. As far as we can determine rain constantly being flushed into the cai is what did it.

Trust me it's worth the 300.
