I've been getting a lot of requests for the angel eyes install guide. So instead of PMing everyone, I will post it here so everyone can see. wink

Angel Eye Installation Instructions

Step1: Remove front bumper and remove headlights. Each headlight have 3 bolts. Use a 10mm socket wrench to remove.

(right headlight) The right headlight is connected to the wiper fluid container. Just pull the tabs out and it should come right out.

Step2: On back side of headlight there are 3 copper screws, remove all 3. Remove all bulbs also. The low beam bulb has a rubber cap that needs to be removed.

Step3: Heat oven to 300 degrees and then Turn off, Place headlight on a big enough pan with a towel underneath and place in oven for 10-15 minutes. This process softens the glue around the headlight making it easier to take apart.

[Linked Image from imagestation.com]

Step4: Immediately begin to pry open the headlight by using a screw driver and a knife. You may have to repeat step3 several times because the glue hardens again.

[Linked Image from imagestation.com]

Step5: After headlight is apart, set aside bottom piece. The top clear piece has another plastic piece inside. There are 2 screws that need to be removed. Then work the plastic piece out. Do not use too much force because the plastic piece can easily break.

[Linked Image from imagestation.com]

Step6: Next you need a tube of clear silicon adhesive. Take the angle eye and place adhesive on the black area of the angel eye on the rough side. Then place the angel eye around the circle area of the plastic piece and let dry.

[Linked Image from imagestation.com]
[Linked Image from imagestation.com]

Step7: After fully dry, make sure that the wire are through the circle. Next flip the plastic piece over, bend the wires and tape them to the reflector piece using electrical tape. This process keeps the wires from touching the projector lens.

[Linked Image from imagestation.com]

Step8: Test angel eyes before putting everything back together.

[Linked Image from imagestation.com]

Step9: Put the plastic piece back inside the clear part and put both screws back. (See step5).

Step10: You are now ready to put both top and bottom pieces of the headlight back together. During this process, run wires through the opening of the low beam.

[Linked Image from imagestation.com]

Step11: You are now ready to reseal the headlight. One way of doing this is to place headlight in a vice. Make sure the headlight is in between towels to prevent scratches. Next, use a heat gun and slowly remelt the glue all the way around the headlight while applying pressure.

WARNING: Do not place headlight back in oven to remelt the glue. This will cause the angel eye to warp.

Step12: After headlight is resealed, put all bulbs back together. The angel eyes wires should be coming out of the low beam opening. Next, put the rubber cap back on with wires coming out.

[Linked Image from imagestation.com]

Step13: You are now ready to put you headlight back in your car. The wires should be long enough to reach your parking lights for connections. If you would like to wire them to a switch, you would need to crimp an extension.

cost to make these is no more than $20. LED's can be pretty expensive for just little bulbs.

They are brighter in person. At night when the headlights are on, they are not noticeable at all. because the light of headlights is to bright and it drowns it out. The best time to have these on is at dusk. You could disable your day time running lights to have it more noticeable.

i read the link you posted about creating the Angel Eye, the clear acrlyic rod must me multipled scratched cut around on both sides?

[Linked Image from students.washington.edu]

and about the LEDs, if you combine them do you need only one resistor?

nope, only one side. While installing them make sure the smooth side faces out.

Yes the LEDs are combined so you only need one resistor per ring.

One more thing I forgot to add: The angel eyes should be 2.5 inches in diameter for a good fit. thumbsup

LED's are specifically made to withstand a very very long life period. If one were to blow out then yes it would be a bit of a hassle to replace it.

I have a friend who currently makes IS300 kits on my site and he uses fiber optics for the actual angeleye. I am sure that you could do that here as well then you would not have to do all that BS cutting. The fiber optics cost more but depending on the demand you could probably charge more because you would have a better quality product.

Blue and yellow headlights. Headlights must be white - blue and yellow are illegal (24011 VC).

Headlights brighter or higher wattage than those from the factory. You may be able to see better, but the lights are illegal (24011 VC).

from...
https://celicahobby.com/forums/ubbt...ording-to-california-highway-patrol.html

I dont see anything illegal about them thumbsup

the rings were made with a clear curtain rod and the LED's were placed at the ends of the rings held by shrink tubing.

If anyone was wondering what size resistor to use like I was, I found the formula. It's R=(Vs-Vl)/I
R=resistance, Vs=voltage supply, Vl=voltage of LED, I=current of LED. thumbsup

i would make the wires a little longer and attach then to your fog lights so you can turn them off and on also makes for good hiding tecnique (see successful speeding thread) LOL

It does seem like a lot of work, but if you just read the instructions PreatoRian gave very carefully you'll do it perfectly. I'd say there isnt a single place that would sell these to you, but if there is it'll be atleast 70 -100 dollars. I spent about 15 makin' mine and they turn heads whereever i am at night. Heres a pic:

yea, i got them to work. Figured out what my problem was. the first rods i tried to use were made of a different material. They melted bad and messed up the whole thing. The rods would bubble and yet still would not bend. Got some rods at Home Depot that worked great. I didn't have a dremel so they took me a really long time. I also made a few mistakes with the light being too big on the first one, so it took me 2 hours to make the first one. The second one only took 20 minutes tho. I used a butter knife in place of a dremel, came out great. Hope the install into the headlights is easy. hoping to do that tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Nice, it all takes practice, especially with the wiring. It took me 7 LEDs before I got the wattage correct in my headlights. I hooked mine up so when you turn on the interior lights on(one turn of the head light knob), they come on and then the second turn is the headligths themselves which all worked out great because the angel eye headlights in blue are illegal to drive with. When my head lights were on so were the angels, but you couldnt see them because the head lights drown them out. Gotta love perfect conditions...

Great diy job! Just a question though. Ive gone to my local radio shack and the LED's there are $5 each and they're 1000 or 1100 mcd. On ebay i can get 20 of them @ 16,000mcd. Would using a brighter bulb make a huge difference? Im mostly concerned about the legal side of it.

Also for those that want to do this, ive found that shower curtain rings that are transparent are the perfect size, and there are some that are already knotched along the side. All you have to do is drill the holes for the LEDS.

i just finished this mod and 2.5 is a bit too small for a radius. Id go with a 3" to be safe, that way the bulb wont touch the projector.
