You have to decompress the jack first. Do this by twisting the knob counterclockwise I believe. I think you should be able to do it by hand. Lowering the jack will release it, and when you want to put it back, just jack it up a little until it sits snugly.

Factory jacks are a pain in the ass, your arm is damn near about to fall off by the time the car is lifted. I would invest in a better jack

it's a pain to put it back in, but i don't really use it. i bought a better jack to use.

and then save up and go buy a Lift Jack, chocks, and a Jack Stand combo. pepboys has a better price.

Squeeze the jack with your right hand. Twist the knob clockwise. Jiggle the jack a little. Slide it out of the bottom plate and remove it out of the top notch where the jack is held in place.
