Well, I just got my car back yesterday after three long weeks of not having it! Why you ask. It is simple really, you see high compression cars such as the celica can't handle much more over revving then what the factory limits it to. I am well aware of that and was previously, BUT, accidents DO happen! I was running my car at the track and redlined third gear going to slam it into forth, but it went back into second sending the rpms SCREAMING into tach pin estimating from 9200 to 11000 rpm!!!! NOT GOOD! Everything seemed to be ok when I got off the track, no funny noises really, just some valve tack.
Well, day went by and the valve tack got LOUD! I took it to the dealership and they said everything seemed normal. I told them I misshifted and they still said nothing was wrong. I went home and no sooner then when I was merging onto the highway I did it again...1st...2nd...3rd...2ND!!!!! This time a HUGE cloud of black smoke rolled out of the exhaust! The car was running fine the whole way home and everything was still ok. But I was still wondering what the valve chatter was all about. I wanted to look and see if there was a floated valve or even bent valve but I didn't want to void warrenty! They paint all the bolts to see if they were tampered with. So finally I went out one night and I was driving slow and the car just shut off. It would not turn over by key again! So some buddies and I huddled up to see what we could figure out
The next bright idea we came up with on the side of the road at 4:00 am was to push start it. It worked!!!! So I drove as far as I could. It sounded like dead sqirrels being stired up in a pot of house keys!
It was clanging and clacking and then bogging but finally, after about a half mile trip there was a loud bang and then the oil light came on!!! I coast for another two hundred feet and then see nothing but a stream of oil chasing me down the road!
When I popped the hood, I found oil everywhere and the plastic under panel was covered in oil and metal chuncks one which was a half of a munched up piston with rings still on it, and a couple peices of block. BEAUTIFUL I went into a psycho state and just started laughing and running around trying not to realize the amount of fuc#ed I was!
But in conclusion, it was a valve fried, broke off into the cylinder, blowing the rings. After pop starting it and driving like that, the number three cylinder welded the piston, rings, valves, rod, and sparkplug all together into one giant ball! BEAUTIFULQQQQ
But, you gotta love warrenty FREE BRAND NEW MOTOR, ALTERNATOR, A/C, CLUTCH, TRANNY, TIRES, AND A NEW TRD T-SHIRT !!!!! :whatever:
wow, sounds like someone needs to learn how to shift into the right gears
seriously..at the track its understandable because your shifting fast, but on daily driving? ALSO you have the wider shift gates...u really need to work on your shifting
aww comon guys, he knows what he did...dont give him crap about that.
I totally feel for you man, sorry to hear about your car. I did that once, and now that you mention it.. sometimes when i turn my wheel..i hear a click click..hmmmm i hope i dont have the same damage.
Wow, everything free under warranty huh? Well, it happens, I sometimes mis shift in the freeway, but I realize before I let go of the clutch and then adjust it so I get 4th gear. Well, if anything goes wrong with my motor becuase fo mis shifting then Im screwed because my warranty os no longer valid. But glad to hear everything turned out ok.
i am surprised after you told them that you mis shifted that they did all that work under warranty... very surprised... my dealer wouldnt do my work under warranty and my mis shift didnt result in a new engine...
this is a sad story man. the suffering of the 2zz engine. you pushed it too much bro lol. im impressed they did all that under the warranty work without giving you a hard time. 10,000$ worth of job maybe
It isn't that I don't know how to drive, trust me, it is just that when I raced, on the track or the street, for some reason I yanked it back into second instead of forth.I just get a lot of adrenilne and get a little to eager to SLAM the gears ya know? Yeah, you guys really should make sure that you have documentation of EVERY time you change your oil, wether you do it yourself or you have it done. They kinda wanted to give me shit about that, but I knew the parts manager's son and he cut me some slack. I had ran a few bottles of nitrous thru my car about a year ago also so that could have aided in the destruction. They knew that wasn't what did it but I was still sure to remove ALL taces of nitrous including replacing the fuel line, befor I towed it in. Just remember, if you "play dumb" and tell them you don't know what happend...it is NEVER your fault. I knew the piston shot thru the block, but I just told them it was ticking and then shut off followed by the oil light coming on. I am VERY greatful for my fortunate valued warranty and I can assure you, this motor is gonna be all SHOW! It is my daily driver after all. But I already put the coldair Intake back on. Couldn't help myself.
looking at profiles it is interesting that a lot of the mis-shifts happened on GT's not on GTS's.
is there something 'bout the 5-speed that makes the 3-4 shift difficult? on the 6-speed, it is the easiest shift to not mis-shift...
for me, the only mis-shifts i get are from 2-3 'cause i'm shifting too fast and i bang into the gate, but i don't put it accidentally into another wrong gear though...

3-4 shifts should be the easiest, regardless of what type of tranny you have.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force...number one in the hood, G
The worst misshift I have done is when you are power banging the gears & you are only half using the clutch & you just let it out too quick before you get into the next gear & you rev to the limiter in neutral. I couldn't imagine actually putting it in the wrong gear.
