I was thinking about lowering my 1990 Celica GTS

But the other day i was in my friends Z24 that he just had lowerd 2.5 inches, and the while he says it handles a lot better, when i was in it, the ride quality was shit. You could feel every little pot hole, and the large ones were aweful. After that ride i am thinking twice about lowering my car. Did he get crappy springs? or is that what you can expect from lowering your car?

It's not the springs, it's the shocks. They need to be replaced, and a bump stop isn't a bad idea either.

With stock springs, the springs are taller, therefore, the spring takes the brunt of the impact, and the shocks help thereafter. When you get lowering springs, the springs get shorter, meaning more strain is put on the shocks themselves.

The lower you go, the more problems you will encounter. If you go as low as 2 inches (like I did), I recommend that you replace the shocks with new ones (since the part is already off your car) because they won't last long.

Doesn't matter if you have springs, springs/stock struts, springs/shortened struts, or some of the full coilovers. The lower you go the worse it is.

shocks stock shocks suck and yes it feels like a punch but because its stiffer with springs

what shocks do you recommend?

1.4 inch drop ...thats your best bet..you wont need to replace shocks and the ride quality is really nice...i didnt notice ANY difference in ride when i lowered my car..i actually noticed a much larger difference when i got my rims. 2.5" is RIDICULOUS.

2,5" isn't ridiculous. Not if you've got BIG wheels. I've got a 2,7" drop rear and 2.3" front. Looks just right, sitting on 19's.

And, as it already has been said: the lower you go, the more you'll feel every single bump in the road. And what tyres you're running also has a lot to say. The lower the profile, the more you'll feel everything.

the shocks are not the only reason for all the stiffeness. springs have something to do with it too...

Springs have actually more to do with it than shocks.
