well you made it quite obvious for him to ticket you. regardless of what others say they have quotas to make (i believe they call it their "monthly productivity assesment"). 5% is a bit dark. i used to have 35% tint and was left alone (i even work next to a police station). but yeah no tints on the front windows is the law. if you had a lighter tint he may have just driven by and if too unsure of himself he could of just kept driving. but at 5%. he knew you had tint. he knew it was against the law. and he knew he coult write you up with no excuses. thankfully he wasn't a dick and gave you a ticket.

cops get nervous if they can't see you...i think that is why they pull people over for such a minor infraction.

sorry to say, but if you knew it was illegal and you did it anyways, you should have also been prepared to deal with all the hassles it brings. I've had mine off several times - but the very same day as the inspection, I have an appointment to put it right back on again. The tint tickets were $82 and the cost of re tinting was $65... I usually took the ticket and paid the difference as a "convenience fee" sorry about your troubles though... just be glad you didn't get the RACIST officer pulling you out of your car, laying you flat on the ground and cuffing you - having you lay there on your face for what seems like hours

I cant believe some cop cuffed you and laid you on the ground!?!? what race was he? what race are you?

You can't blame the "fucking" cops for enforcing the law. That's what society pays them for. A nice legal tint will still look good.

Yah, I feel the same way about speeding. But hell, I'm still polite to them & I don't blame them for doing their job. He didn't have to let you remove it, he could have just issued the ticket & you'd have to pay it & remove the tint too. So he was nice to ya.

The Word from the UK...
Recent changes in European and UK law have changed which window tints and security films may legally be fitted to motor vehicles.
The original draft of the law does not, in theory, allow us to fit tinted film to glass either oÂn the windscreen, or the two windows either side of the driver (forward of the B pillar), as it decreases the level of light transmission below 70%. This was worked around however, as the law didnt specifically state anything about the fitment of after-market films.
Moving forward, this Ëœwork around was abused, and a number of people fitted low light transmission films to their front windows, the so called privacy or blackout films. The inevitable happened, a report oÂn a fatal accident noted that the fitment of an after-market tint to the window, and consequential loss of vision, was contributory to the death of the motorcyclist. This, combined with European directives, leads us to the recent amendment.
This now closes the loophole under which we have been working, and effectively bans tinting windows beyond the 70% light transmission level originally prescribed.
We are now in an interesting position, the statute has been written, but until someone is taken to court and found guilty, the issue is not law. So how do the Police and vehicle inspectorate proceed? Their guidelines recognise the difference between Ëœlight and Ëœdark window tints, but despite much debate oÂn the safety the fitment of any film or substance will attract an enforcement policy.
Where such a vehicle is stopped and the window tints applied are such that the Visible Light Transmission level, when measured using an approved device falls to below prescribed levels, the following enforcement guidelines have been agreed with, and recommended, by the Government. Above 30% Visible Light Transmission (Less Severe Window Tints) The owner or driver of such a vehicle will be required to have the tinted film removed from the windows under the direction of either a Rectification Notice or a Delayed Prohibition Notice, A period of grace will apply for a limited number of days (normally ten) during which time the vehicle may be driven whilst the rectification work is to be completed. In either case, the vehicle will need to be inspected by either a Police Officer or Vehicle Inspectorate Officer to confirm that the glass has been restored to a compliant condition. Prosecution is unlikely in such circumstances provided the vehicle owner complies fully. Below 30% Visible Light Transmission (Excessively dark Window Tints) The owner or driver of such a vehicle may be issued with an Immediate Prohibition Notice and immediately prevented from driving the vehicle oÂn public roads until the tints have been removed and either a Police Officer or Vehicle Inspectorate Officer confirms that the glass has been restored to a compliant condition. It is also possible, depending oÂn the severity of the offence, that the owner may be prosecuted for driving a vehicle in a non-roadworthy or even a dangerous condition with the potential for Penalty Points and a Fine. Driving such a vehicle oÂn public roads before the tints have been removed and before a Prohibition Notice has been lifted will be a serious offence and the owner or driver is likely to be prosecuted.

Never heard that one before. I have illegal tint too. I've been meaning to take it off though because it's hard to see out of at night I'm at the legal limit here in Arizona. I wouldn't want it any darker; I don't even have to adjust my mirror at night.

I just paid my $1051.00 ticket ($821 ticket, $220 traffic school, $10 processing fee) Officer said I was doing 50 MPH in a 35 MPH zone at 12:15pm on July 24... and then crossed out everything and wrote 55MPH in a 35 MPH zone at 11:55pm on July 23rd... But wrote "Speed Approx: 53mph" and then crossed that out and wrote "Speed Approx: 52mph" Yeah... allot of crossing out on his part. The funny thing was is that he didn't want to accept my California Driver's license from June 2002 (exp 2006) because it didn't look like a real picture of me... His quote exactly was, "Do you have another license with a real picture on it, not something from High School". I'm 31 - its been almost 15 years since high school - 1991 to be exact So I pay the ticket upfront and then go see the judge in mid October and they will refund my $$$. This is a crazy system - but you gotta play their game if you want to live in USA.>>> GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT <<< Everyone charged with a penal offense has the right to be presumed innocent until proved guilty according to law in a public trial at which he has had all the guarantees necessary for his defense. The officer's claims were inaccurate and he knew it, this is why he had changed his original report several times before submitting it to me for REQUIRED signature stating that I am to appear in a court of justice to prove my innocence or have handcuffs put on and hauled off in the back of his car to spend the night in jail and to also have my car towed ...for a SIMPLE 15mph over the speed limit at 11:55pm on a Friday night - in which my speedo was clearly displaying UNDER 40mph (yes, I actually got off the freeway 5 exits early because it felt to fast for me (80mph) and the traffic was too tight (like 'rush-hour tight')... don't ask with my car, i drive like a grandma sometimes) This whole thing is just a big waste of time for everyone... how did they find me guilty? the trial hasn't happened yet - I opted for "TRIAL BY DECLARATION", which is stating "NOT GUILTY" and submission of the facts of why I am not guilty... there was many changes he made to the ticket before he handed it to me to sign he wrote information down, changed it and wrote different information... in several places looks like chicken scratch by the time he got through with this simple ticket... and thats why i believe that there was an error in reporting the ticket to the court and the bail amount being $821... ie; inaccurate either way, I sent them the money they requested to be received BEFORE the trial date... ...and then I went to http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com and bought some Dodger tickets for Tomorrow nights game right behind first base - on the lower levels i figured that a good Baseball game, a Dodger-Dog, some beer would be exactly what's needed at this point

In criminal proceedings, you are innocent until proven guilty. With ordinance violations, it's a different story.

The best is CCRA or in your country the IRS. They use purposely vague & sweeping laws to ensure you never prove yourself innocent. In the meantime they guaranshee your paycheque in case you don't prove yourself innocent.

isaac, that is so messed up. I can't believe you have to pay first. It almost sounds analagous to posting bail, but that is only used in cases of serious criminal offenses to ensure that the defendant will appear in court. Since you have every right NOT to appear in court, I can't figure out why you would have to pay upfront.

Shaet, You too?!? I just got off working the holidays (Mon/Tue). In Livermore I was on #2 lane goin 75. with the flow. On Santa Rita Blvd, I notice a HP entering. drop speed to 70. I watched him for about a mile to see if he get off the freeway. Nope he didn't instead he was ready to pass me then slowly pulled back. I ignored him but b4 I know it he turned on his lights. Rolled down windows and I said "Whats the problem officer" he said "I pulled you over because you were going 75 back there and the tinted windows" I argued about the speed limit, and got off that but I was too pissed and tired to argue about my tint. But this phuckin kid yeah he's young punk got nothing better to do so he picked me. I've pulled over b4 for speeding and none said bout my tinted windows. If there's anyone in stockton aread with spec blue gts without tint. Bump. Anyways I was so pissed, I hope a semi truck run him over. Yeah I know, Infantile! But so what.

5% is a bit dark. i used to have 35% tint and was left alone (i even work next to a police station). I have 35% on the front and limo at the back. 35 is not bad. I have blk interior so it just seem a lot darker tint.
