i was driving back home on i-10 in LA wit my cruise set to 75 wit my g/f watchin a movie from my in-dash dvd player. then dis state trooper passes me up on the left lane but immediately slowed down. when he had enough space he immediately went into my lane and tailgating me. so i didn't pay any attention to him but then i noticed a faint flash of blue and i realized he turned his headlights off. well after dat he quickly started going to the emergency lane. well i thought he was pullin me over so i put my emergency blinkers on and pulled over. as i sat there i saw him coming from behind and after he stopped he turned on his headlights and the famous blue/red strobes. i sat there for awhile until he told me to stop out of my car. he immediately yelled for me to take my hands out of my pocket. well, he told me it was illegal for me to have any kind of tv in the drivier's view. dat i didn't argue because i don't kno the exact law behind dat in la. i asked him about all those other suvs/trucks who has the monitors coming down from the ceiling in front of the driver's view but he responded sayin dat was illegal and dey shouldn't have dat. but then he says dat my exhaust is illegal. i'm running a hayame exhaust wit a straight pipe. but i told him wat if it was under the decibel limit (don't kno if it is or anything) but he reponded dat any kind of modification to the exhaust except the stock exhaust is illegal. i argued and told him what about all those tested exhausts and trucks who are running straight-pipes and glass-packs. and you kno those are way louder than mine. he didn't give me a ticket but he said i should get dat fixed when i have the chance. during the whole time he told me to get my hands out of my pocket like 4 times for his own saftey. i kno i shouldn't have them in my pocket but he was just so uptight about it.
so i got back into my celica and my g/f asked me wat he wanted. i told her i a ticket for 'television in driver's view' and she told me dat i had the right to stay inside my car. she said something about the driver has the right to stay in the car if he feels uncomfortable with the cop alone and dey can't ask you to step out your vehicle. she said i shouldn't of stop for dat less than a sec flash of his lights and she said she noticed he turned off his headlights. also, she said he shined his flashlights at her short skirt for a long time while i was walking behind my car to meet him. i just dink dis is messed up. you don't see other cars/suvs/trucks gettin pulled over for tv in front of the driver's view. is he goin to pull over ever car for aftermarket exhaust? i dink dat if i didn't pull over as quickly as i did he would of followed me with his headlights turned off, which is entrapment. i dink dis is just another case of sport compact profiling.

Shouldn't argue with a cop about fairness. That only pisses them off more. Its like yelling at him for pulling you over going 15 over the speed limit when another car passed you going 25 faster. It wouldn't matter, you were still breaking the law. Its illegal to have the tv running while you're driving, unless its a navigation unit. Police are not required by law to actually test your car exhaust for dB count (loudness). They can give you a ticket based upon their own judgement. Ofcourse, this varies from state to state. Officer probably thought you might pull a knife or gun out on him. Its for his safety, as well as yours. You're not required to actually get out of the car, but it makes things a hell of a lot easier for police. If they decide to search, you are required to get out of the vehicle. Some police are picky about aftermakets, others don't give a shit. Really depends. It sucks, but its just a ticket. As for your g/f in the short skirt, its probably coincidence. I don't think he was sneaking at peak at your girl, honestly. She probably thought that because he was making her feel uncomfortable.

Yep, take your ticket, be polite & make him show up at court. But yah, the cop is right. Those screens can't be where the driver can see them. If they are, then they need to be hooked up so that they will not work when the car is running. Some of them do that. Unfortunately we all have to live with being grouped in with the Honda idiots. That's just the way it is. Buy a Camry I guess?

^^ i'll buy a camry and drive it for the rest of my life if you can shoot me ten times in the head with an assault rifle and I live to tell about it...but don't try doing that please as for the cop, I've heard one cop say the best thing to put him at ease is to keep your hands on the steering wheel at all times, and if you reach for your wallet to get your license then you tell him "I'm going to reach for my wallet now, ok?" it sounds stupid but why give him a reason to pull his gun - it's not like you hear about many accidental shootings, but no sense in becoming a rare statistic.

well the cop was right to pull you over. and i doubt the cop was checking out your GF. the cop has every right to take you out of the car. you should never argue with an officer. he did what was right.
and after reading DAT i feel slightly more stupid

next time remember to do this if you ever get pulled over by a cop again.
1. take the keys out of the ignition. 2. put your left-hand pinky-finger thru the key ring hole. 3. place both hands on the steering wheel. 4. ACT WHITE, never use any slang or argue with the cop.

you should have slamed on ur breaks and hit ur signal, like you got a flat or something, then pull over...
i do that when ever theres a cop tailing me i slam on the brakes, and pull over, get out and look at my tires, really really closely, he might come up and ask me about it, and ill tell him that i thought i blew out a tire, and that you were tailing me to tell me that...
i also slam on my brakes to people who think they can sqeeze in behind me at lights and shit, i cant wait till someone hits the gas instead of the brake and hits me... its gonna be great...

FUCK THAT! argue with the mother fucker if hes acting like a dick to you. as long as you dont threaten him or make a obscene gesture youll be ok. every time i get pulled over ill respect the cop and do what he says the second he starts to act like a dick ill return the favor. and when done ill put a complaint in to the department.

what all this "dink" nonsense. NE way keep your hands in clear view id keep it on the steering wheel but since you were outside i guess keep your arms crossed or something. there's that story of the girl with a dark tint getting pulled over. Then she grabs for her cell phone as the cop is walking up and gets shot.

I agree with most people here. You shouldnt be driving while watching a movie. He did his job and there are other cops that are worst than the one who stopped you in L.A.
You know, it was kinda hard reading what you wrote, too much DAT.

Yeah I like the 4th one, act WHITE lol, it worked too. And im a bald ass mexican. I got pulled over by a CHP not too long ago for speeding and going 85 in a 55. Anways I was on my way from the lake with some friends. I had my cute lady friend w/ me who was in her bikini still The guy pulled me over and for sures I thought i was going to get a ticket, but he didnt give me one He said he, "Appreciated my honesty" and I was acting white at that and saying, SIR and Thank you to the chp cop! He was white too no offense...

i'm from louisiana so i can tell you a few things about our laws: 1st off--you need to come to the celica meet we're having this saturday (unless hurricane ivan messes us up) at the lakefront..i'm going to PM you with some more details. secondly, the cop has EVERY right to ask you to get out of your car and you CANNOT argue with them or they can call for backup and arrest you. the cop has NO right to search your car without permission. however, if you refuse, the cop has the right to send for a polic dog and if the dog smells something (drugs) then they can legally search your car even without permission (not that this applies in your case) -you are allowed to have lcd (tv's) in your car--but not in the driver's view. if an SUV or other car has these--they are illegal. however, i think the ones you are talking about are factory installed and they are actually not in the drivers view (unless the driver is reclined) the lcd in suv's pops down from the ceiling and sits next to the drivers head--out of site. -you can be ticketed for an exhaust for 2 reasons: 1. emissions and 2. sound. most name brand exhausts that meet these recommendations will give you a card that you place in your car that states it is 50 state legal--it will also have a reference # so that the cop can check up on this. if the cop cannot prove that the exhaust exceeds decibel limits (which he obviously couldnt) or fails emissions tests (which he obviously couldnt) then he can't give you a ticket (which he didn't--but some cops choose to anyway). what he said about you can only have the 'stock exhaust' is untrue and he knows it. -he has every right to have you keep your hands in plain site for security reasons. although you may look harmless to him and were--there are people who 'look' harmless but aren't--and if you watch a few COPS (tv show) episodes you will see this every so often. that said, sorry you got ticketed--but whenever you do have a cop tail you or see a cop--just turn the tv off for awhile. but anyway, that's soemthing you do at your own risk.
