I dunno if this is the right question--b/c i dunno wtf i'm actually talking about...but if any of you guys get this, could you tell me please??

the celica has an 1800 cc engine kristen...if he's looking for another one try atk-engines.com they will sell him one completely new, already assembled, and ready to drop in for like $2,300...they are rebuilt engines using OEM equipment and they've been in business for like 30 years, call em, and I hope caleb gets his car back quick...not having a car is frustrating...unless you have a girlfriend with the same car...hehehehehhehe

the GTS is 1800 cc??? well he's had my car for almost 2 wks, i finally got it back last night--but he really needs his car fixed, and Toyota is giving him a lot of $h*t, and they most likely won't cover anything, and if they do it's gonna cost him outta the ass!! I'll hafta check out that site, if my dad can't get the hook up...thanks AZZKIKR

1.8L = 1800cc (roughly) 2.2L = 2200cc (roughly) I think I read somewhere that the engine is 1790cc but they round up. Is he getting a 1zz/2zz or another one, cause the name should be more important than the size...

1794 cc's for GT and 1796 cc's for GTS as far as I can remember. it's not enough for him to know the cc's since the GT and GTS are both 1.8 L (rounded up). Just tell them the engine code 1zz-FE (GT) or 2zz-GE (GTS). that is, unless he wants a different engine (either way) than what he has now. why wouldn't Toyota cover anything? Is it under warranty? Are they not honoring the warranty for some reason? Don't have the car towed in with the mods on. Put the stock airbox back on and exhaust if he has upgrades. How did he blow his engine OR how did his engine blow?

ok, well i didn't know the names, but he's got a GTS, so I guess that's the 2zz-GE???
but anyway, he bought used, and toyota is not wanting to honor his warranty as of now. I don't know exactly how he did it, but he says he didn't misshift or anything like that, he doesn't think it's his fault.

If he bought it used from Toyota, it should still have the power train warranty (10yr/100K miles) which covers the engine (only if an internally lubricated part failed) He should strip the engine down and see exactly what happened, if Toyota is going to dick him over on the warranty. He might be able to salvage internal parts for sale to help offset the cost of a new engine. I say he ought to replace it with a turbo 1ZZ

haha. just saw that. we brothas so Toyota is implying that their is no warranty on a used car (if it works this way then I learned something new). That being used makes it all more likely/believable it wasn't his fault. But that doesn't mean a new car can't blow. Yes it can. So Toyota needs to back up their reason for not honoring a warranty with FACTS. Not hunches or what they want to do. Warranty work does not pay nearly as well as non-warranty work. What is Toyota's actual statement? And I would get this in writing for legal purposes.

OK, i wasn't in the car, so I don't quite know how it happened (not that i'd understand anyway) but when he brought it into Toyota, they said "oh so you downshifted, blah blah..it's your fault", so they said they could take the engine apart to see what's wrong, but it would cost him $1500 just to LOOK at it, and THEN if he needed a new engine, 6k he doesn't have the money upfront for that (or for that turbo engine jameson), so that's not an option for him. My dad works at a car shop, and he gets hook ups, etc. (though he only does body work, not mechanic work)

yes, it has been proven very recently that a turbo 1zz can hit 385 whp (in an MR2-S which has the 1zz). I'm talking about the MWR shop MR2-S which has so far run the qtr in 11.64 s at 120 mph!!! He's not done yet. so the Celica which is FWD and about 200 lbs heavier than the MR2-S, won't be quite as fast (you can put on slicks and do weight reduction to help though). BUT, I wouldn't mind having a Celica pulling high 11's and killing turbo Evo's. Yes I said it. So if you guys want to start the Celica vs Evo thread war again, bring it.

Kristen, don't let him settle on that answer from Toyota. He has a 2000 GTS, which means the update to the transmission was never done, meaning the misshift isn't his fault. using this TSB, he will get the warranty work covered if he plays his cards right: https://celicahobby.com/tech/tsb2/TSB_2001_6spd_GTS_Gear_difficulty.pdfMisshifting is NOT his fault, Toyota didn't make the selector work properly with a left hand drive car till 2001. Don't let them take him to the cleaners, fight that shit.

1zz-fe? 2zz-ge? NO! 3S-GTE turbo! On Ebay, some great deals! Fastest toyota engine you can drop into a Celica. I know Caleb can't afford it, i'm just saying. If hes got a good case with the shifter, tell him to fight it. If Toyota didn't do a recall, then I don't think he can still claim faulty equipment, but you could sue for parts not working.

^^ that engine requires more parts than just the engine, probably $10,000 minimum. It's not a recall item, but it's cause for complaint and therefore gives leverage. Trust me, my car was in the shop for 60 says it's first year with tranny problems, once I pulled out that TSB they were like "Oh...uh...let me get the manager" They don't like informed people.

You'd have serious traction issues with a Celica running that fast with a FWD setup. That was a brilliant remark...when people started racing FWD cars long ago and the RWD haters said that. You might have said any FWD import. Issues...huh? Nothing that can't be overcome, or hasn't been overcome. one thing I noticed about your logic: "traction issues with a Celica running that fast with a FWD setup." If it's running "that fast" apparently it overcame those issues. You should have said "traction issues with a FWD Celica attempting to put that kind of power to the ground."

don't you guys have Trading Standards places? This seems like Toyota r being wankers, they should honour the warrenty unless they CAN PROVE he caused the blow up! Which they probably can't so they would need to replace it.

ok, back on topic: The problem is that dealerships are used to screwing people over and getting away with it (we all know this). So you can just be like everyone else or fight back. There is a lot of money at stake, not to mention the ethical issue. Caleb says he didn't mis-shift, so that's where we need to start to build the offense (defense gets you nowhere - no "bargaining"). Take it to them. You need to get your hands on one of those high-end OBD-II scanners that reads the freeze frame data that got stored with the CEL (check engine light). I am assuming his engine blowing up caused a CEL. If the freeze frame data comes back with the event occurring at or below the rev limit, then they cannot prove he mis-shifted whether he did or not. If the freeze frame data says the event occurred somewhere above the factory rev limit (highly unlikely) then he may have downshifted into a gear that was too low for his current speed. For example, this could be redlining 3rd and accidentally pulling into 2nd instead of the intended up-shift into 4th. It is imperative to get this freeze frame data. Any auto mechanic shop has this more expensive scan tool which costs $400-$500 at Kragen. You'll have to have the car towed there. Tell repair shops you only need the data read and printed (takes less than 2 minutes so don't let them charge you a lot!). If you can't get it printed, go somewhere where it can be printed. Get the name(s) of the tech(s) and have him/her/them sign off on the work. Have them sign that no other work was performed other than having the data read. The Toyota dealer will not provide this to you. If the Toyota dealer already reset the data, then they can't prove he mis-shifted unless they have a printout of the over-the-rev-limit rpm (assumming it is legitimate). You might want to have several witnesses with you when you have the data read at the auto repair shop. Once you have the data, you have all that you need to legally require the Toyota dealership to cover the blown engine. Again: if they cannot prove he caused a mis-shift then they have to honor the warranty. The GTS is a motorcycle trapped in a car's body and it is meant to be revved high. If it is revved high and blows at or below the rev limit, then it is legally defective. If the dealer doesn't budge... Immediately turn and walk out of there and take it to an attorney who will use your data and reasoning to make the dealership honor the warranty. It might just take a "wake-up" call from the attorney to the dealership OWNER. Or if the dealer wants to take it to court, you will win more than the cost of the engine. Either the legal fee will have been recovered or the lawyer will have been paid on a contingency basis (meaning only if you win). Do have the attorney contact Toyota to let them know that for their own good they should step in. Please consider my suggestion. I feel very strongly about corporations defrauding consumers, and there is a good chance I will work in this area when I become an attorney. At the very least, have an attorney make the phone call. Don't think about losing or backing down or buying an engine at this point. Fight back, and unleash the pissed-off kitty!!!

fuck toyota, i had to do the same wen my trani was fucked, they refused at first, and tried charging me 1 thousand, i said y are you charging me for, they said its ur clutch making the noise, so i said fuck ya and left, 2 months later my fuel injectors were gone, so the car was taken to an other dealer, they charged me 200 to fix it, and i said y are ya charging me 200 for a 10 dollar fuel injector, they said because we had to give a 120 point inspection in it, so i said you did, he said yeah, so i was like so is my clutch gone, are my synchros fuck, he said i dont know, so i said if you dont know then i wont pay the 200 for the stupid test ya did, so he said fine so he ran the test, and it showed my synchros were gone, took my car back to the original dealer, and they were like we will fix it right away, they knew i could of took it farther and sue them for trying to sell me something i didnt need, keep trying and fight them
