do ur rims take away a lot of power off your car? i had a gts with the 15" gt rims for a day, that car jumped when punching it. few days ago i drove a gts with 17" chrome rims and the car didnt have the pull the 15" wheeled gts had. i know that you lose power, but do you notice the power loss, cause i really noticed it.

Yes you would notice it depending on the size and weight. If you have some heavy 17" or 18" rims then yes its gonna slow you down. But it all depends on the weight, my 17" weigh 12 lbs which is way lighter than the stock 15".

It's not only weight. It's also more wheel to turn with a bigger size. It's like when they change to a taller slick on a dragster. When we were selecting slicks for my friends race car we used a calculater wheel that had the dif gear number and slick hieght and the calculater wheel would give us the est. RPM at 100mph. It's also why the speedo doesn't read accurate, it changes the final drive ratio if I'm not mistaken.

yea, it depends on the weight of your aftermarket rims, new 17's weigh 12lbs each but my stock 15's were like 15-16lbs

stock 16" GTS rim wieght 19lb... I have some stock GTS rims with no tires in the back yard and i just checked.. it weights 20lbs.. so yah ~19-20lbs is the weight of a GTS rim.. so I guess GT rims are better ..in terms of speed

I'll take my 16lbs. 17" by 7" 215 40's over my stock 15" by 6 1/2" 205 55 any day for performance where it matters. I honestly can't say for acceleration what was or is better and I'm not drag racing with my Celica so who cares. My 15's now are wrapped with snow tires, so you get the picture. I know my Celica on older 19 Lbs. 17'' by 7" Volks on heavier tires was a tad slower through straight line acceleration compared to the 15's, but who cares anyway about that and which would you take. If I had say some 19's or some 18's with heavier tires to boot then it would matter. If you're turning 18" or above, forget it. Like a turtle going down the shoulder of the highway. Those 15" wheel came with my GTS. So go GTS.

^^thanx for ur explanation. thanx erick for making 20lbs a "fact" should i pay 550$ for for stock 16"s or wut? i mean the stocks look fine, but the main reason i want a stock one is bcz i dont really wanna lose any power or should i buy light aftermarket wheels for about 1000$? i prefer aftermarket wheels looks, but im afraid 17"s will slow me down not just by its weight, but also by its size, i assume itll be longer to rotate each tire, so spinning will be slightly slower. if it is slower, is it something that you feel?

I wouldn't pay that much for stock rims. For one you can get them used for a lot less. Second i dont think they are worth that much. They are actually pretty heavy for 16" rims. If you get a 17" rim 19 lbs or less you wont feel the difference at all. If its more like 15lbs or less it will actually be better than the stock 16s. I think 17" are the best because its the best compromise between looks and performance. Buy a good lightweight 17" rim.
