Hello,
I got a pack of Synthetic Mobil 1 Oil rated 15W-50. Is this okay to put in my GTS?
And when changing oil, do I need to replace that ring around the screw like stated on the FAQ?

You don't have to unless it's broken.
Where do you live?
I'd use 5w.

I live in California, Pacifica.
I would use 5W but before I do so, I have 6 unopened bottle of Mobil 1. This would save about $20 bucks or something.

i would use a heavier weight because when the weather is like 90 degrees the hotter weather will eventually start to break the oil down faster than in a 75 degree climate.
edit-the 15W should be fine.

stick to what the manual says.
i would say 5w-30 or 10w-30 would be your best bets and, if i recall right, heavier oils than that can actually damage your engine by not being able to flow enough.

Unless you live out in the middle of the desert in 120 degre weather, or run the car at redline 95% of the time you drive it, 5w30, 10w30, and 10w40 are all you need.

Is not really what I need. The point is that, should I just not use this box of oil? It is already in the garage, saves me a trip to Kragen.

can't you exchange it for the correct weight oil at Kragen?
i am also under the opinion that it is better to make a short trip to Krager than a long trip to the dealer to get your motor replaced.

Use 5W 30. Keep the other oil in the garage or something.

Do not use that oil. Its actually bad for the vvt. That's way too thick. Get some 5-30 or 10-30.

I use that oil in my motorcycle. I'm with everyone on this, just take a trip to the store and get the oil that's right for your car

People starting to believe that it's possible for a 10w-30 not only the 5w-30. What a change from a couple of weeks ago. I agree in changing that in or getting a new Mobil 1 that fit's your needs from your own pocket. I'm sure that sludge won't damage your engine. I've run plenty of different types of viscosity on my beater cars and they all ran fine. The key word is "beater" here so remember that.

5w30 all the way, unless you are taking a track day at a road racing course...then you may want to go with 10w30
