Will I need to get the lower compression pistons? A different tranny? Different clutch? You name it...
I dont might running a mild PSI to start out with, but i want to eventually try and run around 300WHP+.
My friends buddy makes really nice custom exhaust manifolds and is thinking about making the whole kit for me, with a straight pipe exhaust.
How much power can the stock tranny and clutch handle? And also, whats the largest width tires and rims that I could use to get the best traction possible?
Really interested in turboing. I just went for a ride in my friends brothers brand new STI, and it was sexy. Then i drove my car home and felt slow.

if you turbo ur car and want to get 300 hp ur going to need to lower ur compression by getting pistons connecting rod. ur going to need at least a stage 2 clutch and a flywheel for starters
i've been changing but you'll never see me now now i'm blaming you for everything
Your going to need need clutch. Stock clutches are terriable! As far as low compression pistons Don't even try and boost a GTS without them.. And Rods! Crower Rods and Wisco Pistons! As far as running 300whp plan on really spending some money. C2Gas or bling from N C.org blew his transmission at 18psi. Your gunna need new gears if you boost that high. Bigger fuel injectors Larger Fuel Pump

Thats a negitive! You can do a custom CAI but there was a post abit ago (Search Button) discussing CAI on turbo's. As far as investing into one, I've read your better off keeping a Ram air. No the turbo doesnt go where the intake it.. The turbo goes off the manifold and the manifold is located in the back of the engine. Follow your exhuast! lolz Anways. Your intake shouldn't be a problem. As far and finding all the parts might be.
I recommend getting a kit. But if you do custom do it. Your gunna need FMS too.. Along with countless other things..
u'll need a new tranny depending on how much tq you want to run because torque is waht kills trannies check out www.c2power.com [c2power.com] they have a tranny for the celica which is 3900, you'll need new injectors, clutch, bigger fuel pump, low comp pistons, and connection rods.
so how much total would one have to spend? i was thinkin bout getting turbo 2, i wonder if it would cost to much, if so, id have to go all motor not bad, but ive always wanted a turbo
"They say that one can tell how a man treats himself by the way that he treats his car" -> french guy from "transporter"
going all motor is pointless.. AkA N/A Celica's don't have cams...
If you go all motor than a turbo your guna spend about 10k. I got quoted for that plus a custom turbo and a custom 3inch exhuast.
If you did just turbo. On stock pistons and rods. The only thing that your going to have to upgrade is Injectors and Clutch whihc will equal about 800 + Turbo (3600) "Depending on kit" + Install or turbo and clutch and injectors (800) All about 5k. Not be bad.
But i recommend if your goin to replace one thing in your engine such as clutch that you get upgraded pistons and rods and valves, vavle springs, and the whole sha-bang to save on Install costs. Why not get everything in there at one time. and save about 1l on install fee's most shops just charge based on taking out the engine.. Than whatever they put in from there is no extra charge.
If you really wanted though. you could get a Turbo kit for 4K installed and in your car. You will run about 6psi but you'll have a turbo
As far as the turbo kit goes, my friends buddy makes custom exhaust manifolds and the whole deal. I havn't really gotta sit down and talk to him a whole lot about it yet, but from what I hear I will just have to pay for parts as he wants to use my car for a model to make other headers off of. He also will probably be making me a custom exhaust too.
How much horsepower can the stock 2ZZ engine handle, before i have to get all the new stuff?
"I didnt realize girls had that much plumbing down there. I saw a diagram of it and it looked like a map for six flags."
What I would like to do is get the turbo going on my stock motor and all. Then few months done the road get lower compression pistons and new rods, injectors, valve springs ect. Probably before that though do the clutch and flywheel.
So whats the likelyhood of running a turbo on a stock celica GTS and nothing happening to it? And any guess-ta-mites on possible whp range after tuning at 6psi?
Thanks fellas!

dude theres no way ur gonna run it on stock. if you did, it would cause hella ware and you wouldnt get the same performance as you would if you got the right stuff to go with it. gts ull NEED low comp pist, NEED bigger injectors pumps, NEED clutch and NEED tranny. the pists r cause the gts is high comp, the injectors n pump is because the stock 1z dont put enough in to go with the increased amount of air, and the clutch and tranny is because that turbos gonna give you madd torque and stock clutch/tranny will get raped like a 9yr old in michael jacksons bedroom.

Turboing is hella expensive because you're buying more than just the manifold, wastegate, intercooler, intake and pipes. You have to upgrade your entire engine to be able to handle it all. Otherwise you get that wear that we've been talking about.
Buddy of mine knows a guy who ran his WRX at 25 psi and blew his rods right out. Pressurized projectile! Thought i'd share this.

do people use the TRD clutch with turbos? or is it not good enough? whats its maximum torque/hp rating?
No you're going to need a better clutch setup.. Youre going to need like RPS clutch or even ACT. Don't plan on buying a TRD cause you wouldn't be able to hold power in those things.

You also know what ALMOST all of those cars with those kits.. "That havnt been tuned perfect" have BLOWN thre engine..Sounds way risky! I dunno.. If you get a turbo on a stock engine your going to need 1. Upgraded Clutch 2. Bigger Injectors 3. Boost Controller 4. EGT Gauge so you can tell if your engine is gunna frie.
***Note your gunna run like 5psi... If you try and go any higher on Stock internals on a GTS say bye bye to engine***
Also, A 1zz engine can hold more power stock becuase the 1zz has lower compression pistons "Stock" so GT's can have like 7psi on there stock engines *with those mods^^^*
or you can save up money and do a full 3rd Gen 3S-GTE swap + the tranny, apexi power FC, just keep the motor stock, you have 245hp right there, then you can get just get the basics, like exhaust, downpipe, other basic small stuff, and you will have around 260.

Save up alittle money?? 10k is a lot of money in my book.. There has been one guy who did that and he spent 10k.. There is a lot of converstions that your going to need to do!

Great power though if done right!
Great power, but it'll never run right. The guy who did the 3sgte swap is barely ever to run his car.
wow never thought of conversions before. jw (cause i know i prolly wont do it) wut would the best conversion be (gts)? and how much would a bastard who did it gain?

So I have an '01 gts and I recently put a turbo Kit in my car. I'm boosting at a safe 6.86psi and I'm pushing 227whp with stock intervals. The only upgrades I made to the engine itself was spark plugs, fuel injectors, and a fuel pump. I do recommend a clutch upgrade if you plan on boosting at all, I've had zero problems with my car but I also treat it with respect and don't kill it. Upgrade your clutch first to break it in, then put a turbo kit in so you can get the max out of it. And yes you will definitely have to do upgrades to your pistons and rods if you are looking to be in the 300whp club, compression in the GTS is too high for boost past 8psi....safely
