Long story short, I got had just paid a speeding ticket that I should have never received. Yes, I was speeding and yes it was my fault. In order to prevent future speeding tickets, I think I should get a radar detector. Why get a radar detector when I should just slow the hell down? I'm afraid of that one chance I get on the gas pedal a little too much and that I'll end up paying a lot for it. How many of you guys have radar detectors and what brand? Did they save you from tickets?

I got an Escort Passport 8500 for $8 at a thrift store. I was barely used and I haven't got any ticket since then. Since I can tell if there a presence of radar detectors, I wouldn't still rely on it. SLOW DOWN on unfamiliar streets...

Valentine One. It's expensive but it's worth the price.
My dad once had it on, we were driving on a 75 MPH highway (out in the middle of Nevada, so pretty flat), and it goes off like crazy. Two minutes later, we see the cop on the opposite side of the road passing all the other traffic (he was going faster than 75). Do the math. It's pretty far out.
It can also detect from the rear, and detects laser from front and rear. Just remember you get what you pay for...

1. you can either slow down and not worry about the cops, 2. You can buy a passport radar and hope the cops still dont get you. so my advice just slow down and you wont have to pay for tickets or a radar.

That would be great but everyone doesn't obey the posted speed limits 100% of the time they're driving. 1. you can either slow down and not worry about the cops, 2. You can buy a passport radar and hope the cops still dont get you. so my advice just slow down and you wont have to pay for tickets or a radar.

well, I drove from Pa to Utah with a radar detector and ended up shutting the stupid thing off. It was always going off for...1).Road construction areas...2). Speed indicator signs (your aspeed is...) and 3). for animal motion detection and lights. It just got to be annoying as hell

Some radar detectors throw off weird bands. There's a certain part of camp pendalton area that just keeps going off on my radar detector. I have a hard time slowing down too but I think their a good investment IF they work . Just don't get caught with it when you get pulled over. Throw that sucker under the seat

Valentine One is the best radar detector as of the moment. Escort one is a step behind.

I have a PNI silver bullet. It doesn't go off in construction, or unless your parked RIGHT in front of a store. It goes off with the "your speed is " signs, and near some airports. I love it, it detects cops my bro's and friends detector doesn't...

i have spoken to police officials and they always say the same thing "that little toy you get at radio shack or best buy ain't gonna do ya any good. we can ping you miles away before the detector even sets off". another thing to consider steven is that even if you get the best radar detector it will not prevent an officer from stopping you. he does not need a radar gun to tell you that you are speeding. he can just say he was pacing you (yes this is unfair but it happens all the time). police have quotas and if they even have a sensation in their left nut hair that you were speeding they will tag you no matter what. i say save the 150-300 dollars on some mods

cops are BSing you ct, they are saying that so everyone doesn't buy radar detectors. Why would a cop want to say "yes radar detectors work and detect us from miles away and would prevent tickets for you" i'd rather be safe than sorry

yeah, if you are going over 75 mph they can easily tell you're speeding, but if you want to go 70-75 in highway radar is good

Radar detectors are legal in cars in all states except Virginia, Washington, DC, and US Military Reservations. In Canada radar detector use in cars is legal in only three provinces, i.e. British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. http://www.speedzones.com/has some test stts and stuff
