Celica Forums Classic Generations 5th Generation Celica how do I "red-out" my taillights?

I'm workin' on doing some stuff to my red '90 celica gt, and I think it's startin to look pretty good. However, I still have the stock taillights, and I can't stand that ugly orangish section of the taillights, so I'm really lookin' to red them out. do they make films that just cover your taillights to red them out, or are they actually completely red taillights for sale as aftermarkets for the 5th gens? Also, which ever is the case, where would I go about getting these (either the films or lights)? do you know a website? Thanks for any help you can give.

Most people who have red-out tail have basicly just used "Texor" candy apple spray paint. You can get it at most Walmarts in the toy model section. Its an emanel I think. Seems to last pretty long. You have to spray it in layers though. That way you don't get them to dark in that area. Make sure you use Candy if you are going to do it. Regular paint isn't transparent, candy is.

Or maybe contact Blue batmobile he may have a red out kit available or can maybe make one available

k bluebatmobile aka andy used to make the redouts for 5th gens but he stopped a while back. but like previously state go to a hobby store and go to the paints and look for "TESTORS" candle apple red i think the number is 1605 on top of the can. take out ur tails, which you can find how to do in the manual that came with the car, then mask off any red areas that you dotn want to be sprayed. ive heard you can sand the light a bit but i didn't and mine turned out fine, but spray thin layers over the amber till you get it to the darkness you like. !

i was thinkin bout redding mine out, but then got to lookin at the stock color, how its kinda outlined in a dark ring. now im stickin with stock the testors transparent is the way to go though if ur gona do it

what about on a black car, is that doable? black them out, not compleatly but you know, enough...?

yes it is, there is a can called "nite shades" which you can purchase and do the same method as i described before.

red outs look better

you can get black outs. The paint you would want to buy is from VHT. Called VHT Nightshade.

just get teh testors transpaerent candy apple red, tape off the shit you dont want painted, or take the lights off, and paint them and clear coat them WITH A GOOD CLEAR COAT AND 3-4 COATS OF IT. you wont be sorry. unless you use shitty clear coat, like i did the first time. youd be sorry then after a few months.

hey ibanezgfx did you get ur tailights to be shiny like how they were stock. i did mine but they come out hazy and im not sure why. i did about 5 layers and then shot it wiht about 3 layers of clear but they are still hazy.

well they were shiney at first, but they fogged up like shit
so i redid them... sanded them all down (which looked like hell cause it was scratchy and foggy and shit) and then cleaned them really good, took them off, painted them with the red. it looked really nice, and then took a GOOD clear coat. it was krylon ultra shiney glaze or somethin and did like 3 coats with that. they look nice and shiney now

I have blacked out tails and corners. I went to my local speed shop Racing Innovations(shameless plug) and had them order 2 cans of VHT Niteshades. I took the lights out, masked them off and sprayed. Thin layers, allowing 10 minutes to dry. I was quite pleased with the results. The lights shine right back through quite well, and it also gives a smoother look.
