Has anybody ever used cruise control on a wet road or while its raining? I just saw an article that says its a rumor that cruise control on a wet surface can cause you to lose control. It happened to me once when i hit a puddle the car seemed like it was trying to speed up and i almost lost control. Has this happened to anyone else?

yes it happend to me last night as i drove back from md to va, it is true wen i have it on it fells like the car is off the ground and just sliding on the water, im not going to use cruse control on the rain it was kinda scary

i drove in the rain one time with cc on and like one wheel sliped the abs kicked in and took the cc off i have a gts of course with abs ????

cruise control has nothing to do with that. You were going too fast for the weather conditions and when you hit the puddle the tire looses grip with the road and goes on top of the water/puddle, causing you to lose control. It's called "hydroplaning" (sp?)

Righto. Cruise control has to do with the throttle, not the brakes, not the wheels. I wouldn't recommend usage in any slippery conditions because cruise control doesn't give a shit what's happening under the tires, it just keeps the throttle steady where you set it.

actually cruise control did have a bit to do with it. since cruise control maintains a certain speed, when the car hydroplaned it didn't lighten off the throttle so the tires could catch back on, the the wheels kept spinning too fast to catch on.

Yeah don't use cruise control in the snow either. Your tires might all of a sudden break loose and you will have no traction until you turn the Cruise off!

cruise control in my opinion should only be used under good weather conditons, I mean you should have full control of the car when in bad weather why would you want the car driving for you if it is really bad out.

Cruise control wouldnt have caused your problem. The CC is controled by your VSS signal (vehical speed sensor). When you hit the water puddle, there was no traction, the VSS probalby revved the car up to acccelrate it up to your set speed because of the small decelaration due to lack of traction. The same thing would have happened if your were driving with your foot on the gas, except you would have reacted a second later and hit your brakes.

well if you hit water and you have your cruise on you are lifted (your car will slow down while this happen) and cruise doesn't know that because your tires are turning @ same constant speed. assuming you have not hit the breaks and cruise is still on yeah that will make it worse. because w/ manual foot operation if you feel like your losing traction you let up on your foot. cruise doesn' . lol. so don't use cruise w/ water on the roads. "use u're head not your cruise control" i never use cruise unless i'm on a long long trip. my jeep doesn't have it so i get use to not using it because i never hardly drive my celica.

I use cruise control all the time because it saves me gas and get better gas mileage. I have never had a problem with it in the rain, even in my previous cars I have owned.
