Here are some pics of the engine bay with the supercharger and also Emanage. I still need to get my engine plastics cut so I can put them back in and I need to put my strut bar back in.

As a lot of you know I went up to MonkeyWrench Racing this weekend to get the TRD Supercharger installed. I had talked to Matt up at Monkey Wrench Racing a few times about how the supercharger had been tried before but didnt work because of extreme pinging. So I explained to him that I wanted the car to be tuned rich since this was my daily driver and I was more concerned with getting the supercharger to work reliably. For those of you that dont know Matt he is cool as hell. He seemed more concerned with seeing if the supercharger could work than getting the money. So I dropped the car off on friday hoping to have it by saturday but that didnt work out too well. It turns out to get the supercharger to fit you need a completely different throttle body and you also need a different belt. So somehow Matt at MWR got the throttle body and the belt in time. Since we lost a full day waiting on the throttle body and belt, he didnt even get to start tuning until later sunday. So sunday night he finally got it done and made sure everything worked right so I took it out for a spin. All I could say was WOW!. The low end torque was amazing. The main reason I wanted the supercharger was for the low end power and it def. has it now. For some reason my car seems to be dynoing very low. I got 111 hp for my gt auto with trd exhaust which seems kinda low. That would be more than a 20% drivetrain loss, and thats not even including the trd exhaust. Well anyways I was expecting around 130-135 whp because of the automatic transmission and how I wanted the tune rich. The car made 130 whp and 122 torque which I am sure some people were hoping for more but am confident you could get a lot more horsepower especially with a stick and you can always add on a few mods. The peak horsepower numbers dont tell the whole picture though. I will post up the dyno when I get it scanned but it is the torque that is the best part of the supercharger. When I first looked at the dyno I thought it was about what I expected it to be. When I drove the car though it was soo much better than I thought it would be.

Okay on to prices. I have been getting a few emails about how I got the prices I did and have even been told I can make some money if I tell them the prices lol. But anyways here are is all the contact info.

-TRD Supercharger (WITHOUT TRD ECU) 1250 shipped from Eddie at Kinderhook Toyota. Phone number 518.758.9211 ext.5 (8am-5pm M-F EST) or email him at eddie@berk.com for other info.

-AIT/TRD Carbon Fiber hood 800 shipped. I lost the email address but it is from Edrick. I will get the contact info if anyone is interested.

-MWR GReddy e-Manage package- Toyota 1ZZ-FE Turbo Preprogrammed (obviously needs tuning) which includes all the harnesses etc.
+ TRD Supercharger install
+ e-Manage install
+ Throttle body and install
+ Belt and install
+ Spark Plugs
all for $1495 from MonkeyWrench Racing.

For a total of 3545 for everything you need.

I strongly recommend going to MWR to get this installed and tuned. The supercharger is not a bolt on and requires the new throttle body and belt and also requires tuning. The tuning is something I would be worried about because you dont want to have anyting happen to your car from poor tuning. I am sure Matt will tune your car to your specific driving style.

I am using 93 octane gas. If you live in california or can only get 91 I would recommend getting either water injection or an intercooler. It would provid0 a safe way to use 91 gas and could add some power through better tuning. On matrixowners.com they have added the air/fuel controller, intake, water injection, and a exhaust system to double the power of the supercharger. I am not going to do anything more. I feel very content with the power this added and it just feels great. I couldnt be happier with the power which is exactly where I wanted it.

Overall I think the power that this added is perfect for my driving style. It kicks in right when you push the pedal. It is obviously easy to take a shot at the hp numbers but trust me, the torque is great. I would recommend anyone to do this at MWR that is looking for low end power and torque. If you are looking for the high horsepower numbers this is def. not the thing to get. I cant say if this expense will be worth it to you since it is a lot of money to spend. When you factor in the hood it seems like a lot of money but I personally wanted this carbon fiber hood so it was really like spending 200 more over a invader hood. I am very happy with it though and if you have any questions just ask.

Thanks guys. Here is the dyno. The dashed line in pencil is the base horsepower and the solid line in pencil is the base torque. It has a nice torque gain. thumbsup

I forgot to mention that the cruise control needed to be relocated. Matt said the supercharger should be very reliable and I shouldnt have any worries about it. I drove a little over 4 hours the night I picked it up and didnt hear any weird noises and the car seemed to run very well. I was kinda suprised at how much better highway driving felt. The supercharger def. kicks in right when you push the pedal though. I got around 33 miles to the gallon on the drive home (assuming the top bars on the fuel gauge are more gas) which is right about at the 33-36 highway mileage stock.

I know what your saying but the supercharger appealed to me because of the instant power. I wasnt looking for the huge horsepower numbers, just the gain in the lower rpms where I spend 95% of the time.

huge turbo lag only occurs in large turbos...a small turbo that generates 170ish lbs. of tq @ 2k rpm is common. i really think you should have opted for the turbo. how much psi are you running?

thats makes me fell all warma nd good insid.e I wish I coudl get one. I am liek you and do not need all the pwoer of a turbo, also less invasive to the engine. To bad gts owners get the shaft at thsi end. jsut goign to have to hook up my leaf blower to my intake. get to good gains there wink

You act like I didnt think through what I wanted. I did not want to wait for the turbo to kick in. I wanted power right away. Turbo's for our cars have been known to be unreliable unless you build up your car. You can say a million times that a turbo is fine but when every week I hear about how a turbo caused a problem I am not just going to take your word for your huge expertise. I took on the job of being the guinea pig to see if the trd supercharger could even work for our car and now we know it can work. If you dont like it why do you even bother posting?

ok butt-hurt mc-gee rofl...i told you i liked it and gave you respect for trying it. i was letting you know that MANY people with turbos are running fine and that they had great results at low rpm. i understand why you're defensive...you did spend 3700 for it.

SLVCELI, thats great bro. put your car up for shows. All TRD: kit, engine... all you need now are the TRD rims, TRD fuel Lid, TRD eyelids, a TRD badge, TRD license plates, then get sponsored by TRD grin

good job bro. thumbsup

The trd supercharger runs at 7.5 psi but I know of matrix owners who say they read only around 6 without a cai. Matt was telling me he could easily put a pulley on their and up the boost but I am not interested in more power.

yeah, i've heard of them running at 6 even though the listed psi is 7.5. i'm sure bumping up the boost to 8 is still safe. so how is take off? more details on the test drive please. you get more wheel spin? are you planning to take it to the track to see what times you get? (i'm thinking you 're at the high 15s rather than the usual auto GT high 16 numbers). what's your 0-60 approx? my guess...8 seconds? confused

let us know. you are the first to try this out.

Well right when you push the pedal you feel the power. The torque is SO much better. Its like night and day. I am as shocked to hear the peak numbers as you are though because honestly it does not feel like that at all. I have driven in cars that have a lot more horsepower than that and it does not come close to as fast as this car. It was hard to chirp my all-season tires before but now the car just takes off and the tires spin almost too easy because of the torque. I have no idea about 0-60 time. If some people can confirm your auto GT time of high 16's then I would say something is wrong with my car. My best time was a 16.8 with the trd exhaust and aem intake. Unless they were just shifting through the gears because I wasnt doing that but I mean you cant really mess up the technique for the auto. But like I said, the car feels great and I am completely content with the power. When you read that peak horsepower number it seems very low but if you drove in the car before and drive it now I have no doubt how impressed you would be.

Then we need someone else to get supercharged so we can compare because my car seems to be on the slower end. I still cant get over the low peak numbers though. My car is so much faster I dont even want to ever do anything else for speed. It almost doesnt make sense.

Its runs on dynapack which mounts to your hubs so I am not sure what else it could be. I heard that if you drive soft in the break in period of your car it will be slower but will last longer and thats what I did. It sounded kinda made up though.

go turbo if you want real power all together but supercharge if you want low end power and not as much as a turbo both are priced similar

sweet work. the hood looks really badass. once i hear back from c2, i should have my turbo here by the end of the year. superchargers sound sweet (at least my friends cooper S does). i'm amazed at the base numbers. i knew the manual was faster, but damn the auto loses a lot of power to the wheel. you've definately given something to shoot for for all those who doubt their auto GT's. excellent work, and it's awesome to see someone like Matt getting so involved with his customer service.

Your IS made me think. The supercharger makes the car feel like a V6 with the added sweet sound of the supercharger. Im telling you the power is so sweet. I took my car out three times today just to drive. I havent been this excited to drive since I first got my license.

Somehow yes. It sure doesnt feel like only twenty horsepower. It is probably the torque I am feeling. Sounds fine to me; Less people sportin my hood.

the wierd thing is that MWR mounted the E-manage unit out in the engine bay. i think it says somewhere in the instruction manual not to mount it in the engine bay, because it is not a sealed unit.
