Okay, I'm having my first minor problem with the Celi. Whenever I start the car lately, there has been a squeaky noise from under the hook for the first fifteen or twenty minutes I'm driving. I'm about 95% sure it's a belt... but which would be likely to cause this at only 24k miles? It's been unusually cold here lately, and I think that might have something to do with it suddenly making the noise.

Toyota recommends changing the belt at 90,000 miles... is the pulley related to this problem? If I get a new belt and aem pulley would that solve the problem? or is a pulley a whole different thing...

https://celicahobby.com/ubbthrea...#Post1953355854 Start by replacing the belt, if this is something you can do yourself. I had a squealling belt (worst when moist or humid), which seems to have totally gone away after replacing it with a Goodyear Gatorback belt from AutoZone ($30). There are several recent threads that have tips on how to do this.
If it turns out to be the tensioner, then you haven't lost anything but a little time. The problem with TSB's that point out a common problem is we sometimes are hesitant to try the obvious.

Do the cheapest thing first...put on a Gator back belt...$20. If that doesn't solve it, then its your tensioner. The tensioner squeel has a different sound. Its more of a metallic squeel, and it will do it only at high RPMs at first. If its squeeling when you first start the car, and it goes away after the car warms up, its the belt.

Celica isn't the only car with this problem. The Saturn I had before the Celica had quite a bit of it too.

Just an FYI, I took mine to the dealership (Burlingame) when I was under 30K miles. They did the work for free, but a year later, it still makes the noise. My friend is a service tech at Toyota (Longo) and he said they probably didn't drain the hydraulic fully before putting the belt back on...

Apparently there is some hydraulic piece that needs to be drained completely before they put the belt back on. If not done correctly, the pressure builds up again and it will continue to squeak. I was going to have him do it for me to be sure it's done for the last time. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

umm, no one has suggested this yet...you should inspect your belt first, make sure there are no cracks or any wear in the treads. Then turn the car on and look down there, make sure the belt is moving in a straight line (no wobbly pulleys). If everything checks out it's probably the belt tensioner.
My cousin had this problem on his GTS, we inspected everything and it was fine. He brought in to the dealer, they replaced his belt tensioner under warranty, problem solved. And he didn't spend 20 bucks on a belt that would've done nothing for him.

I just spray some wd-40 and it's fine... I don't know if I should recommend you guys but... the noise goes away. BTW I didn't just try, I asked a mechanic and he said to do it. Kinda weird because it should be more slipperier if I spray on to the belt but the mechanic said it's fine...

I had mine replaced 4 times at the dealership!! All the times it was covered under the warranty. I get the noise every time it gets cold out. I spray it with 3-IN-ONE Professional Silicone Spray Lubricant. The noise goes away in a minute and stays away for 2 months. Not bad for Florida because it doesn't really get too cold down here. It works when you run the car and rev the engine while spraying it.

After getting the gatorback belt I have to have someone install it for me to drain the hydralic piece right? ummm, no. There is no hydraulic piece connected in any way with the belt. I swapped my belt out in about a half hour. Its easy. Never had a squeel again. The tensioner is spring actuated. I don't know what he is talking about when he says hydraulic piece.
