Hey,
How effective is Nitrous Oxide in our Celicas? I have a GT and I want some more power.
Any one who has a lot of info on Nitrous oxide and how it works anything That will help me understand it more.
Also if anyone has any links ect.
Example Stuff I would like to know, Install Info, tuneing refill info where how to, and how much it cost to refill, hor hard is it to install, is it a doit yourself mod?
Info I need to know inorder to own a nitrous kit

Read this but make sure you relate the things you need to a celica. aka, some of the things will not be right for the celica. People that have there celicas hoped up on Nitrous.
I also have a GT so Some one with a GT that has some Info Plez help I don't wana do any damage to my car not knowing what I am doing.

And you must use the wet kits, NOT the dry. On precautions (some of which included in the directions): use: 1. higher than 91 octane for 50 shot. personally I'd use 100 octane for any shot just to be safe. 2. 2 steps colder spark plugs. 3. WOT switch, an integral part of most kits. 4. Window switch, use the Mallory part # MAL-646. 5. Bottle heater/chiller: keep the pressure in the right range for safety/performance. some brands have only the bottle heater. 6. pressure gauge: again so you know you're bottle's at the right pressure for safety/performance. 7. for big shots like 75, I would retard the ignition timing, but you need some kind of computer to do this, piggyback (e.g. e-manage) or standalone (PowerFC). some people don't recommend over 50 for GTS, but others have done it safely, so it's up to you. 8. A/F ratio gauge with wideband o2 sensor/controller...not everyone can afford this, but just a good idea to make sure you're not running lean. you can test your nitrous on a dyno with a wideband o2 sensor. but as long as you're not running lean already with a OBD-II lean code of p0171 you'll probably be ok, especially with the Zex which does a good job of getting the A/F mixture right. Sorry I don't have time to explain everything now, but that's mostly everything I can think of off the top of my head. btw, I installed a Zex wet kit on my friend's GT. it worked great with the 50.

As a part of the precautions, it's a good idea to have a blow-down tube and it's mandatory virtually at every track. If and when the bottle overpressurizes, a safety disk bursts and routes the gas down the tube outside of the car instead of in the driver compartment. You would otherwise suffocate while driving a high speeds and that wouldn't be good.
The major brands are NOS, NX, and Zex. There's also Edelbrock. And there's the expensive Venom computer nitrous system (VCN) that's also very complicated more than you need. C2Gas has it listed on his mods list, but other than that I don't know if it's wet or dry or compatible with returnless fuel systems which is the issue on why we can't safely or easily use dry. There are ways around it, but none of them good.
NX is known for customer support and for their hp ratings being at the wheels instead of at the crank, so you'll get more power through their shots as opposed to the same shots on other brands. Unfortunately the mixture might not be just right and you may need to go up one size fuel jet than what the manual recommends.
Zex is known for ease of installation and safety in that the A/F mixture is closer to what it should be b/c of its unique patented nozzle system. The more nitrous that gets shot through the nozzle also pulls more fuel with it. There is one guy (at least) on this site that keeps on saying that Zex has a computer than monitors the A/F to deliver the right amount of fuel for the nitrous, but that's NOT true. Part of the ease of installation lies in the fact that both the nitrous and fuel solenoids and the WOT switch are all in one convenient box. And the Zex runs on fewer amps than the NX kit. It draws 10 amps compared to the NX 30. However the hp rating of the Zex shots is at the crank, not at the wheels so it won't be as powerful comparatively. But if you're going to use the 50 shot on whatever brand besides NX, it's not that big of a difference less (maybe around 5 hp). But every bit of hp counts to many people so it's all up to you to weigh what's important to you. Some may find NX not hard to install at all even though it has more parts.
So personally I think the choice is between NX or Zex.

A lot of tuner/speed shops sell nitrous refills. I've heard you can get nitrous refills at welding supply shops (for cheaper than motorsports places)but I haven't done it.
A purge kit is convenient to have as you won't have to do a gas clearing run before you race. Also when you're done for the day you won't have to unhook the nitrous line to alleviate the pressure.

I think it's welding supply shops... not like a standard thing for us racers, but you have to approach them like "Can you hook up a brotha?" haha, and if they're nice they'll take your business.

Another example is he merely recommends plugs but doesn't say anything about them being 2 heat ranges colder. BTW, you have to go 2 ranges colder for your car. There is no such thing as a universal plug to recommend. Another example of potentially damaging info is the person doesn't caution against the dry system on some cars and recommends wet and dry freely, saying that wet is only a bit better in getting the mixture right. True but completely showing a lack of knowledge or true understanding or the ability to express it. At one point the person even mentions messing with fuel pressure without even mentioning he's talking about wet or dry. (btw for 50-75 shots, for wet: stable stock fuel pressure is what you need, and in the dry which we CANNOT use on our returnless fuel system, the fuel pressure is increased anyways through a vacuum signal to the fuel pressure regulator). At the end, the "article" (not the person, as I realized this is just a hashing together of info grabbed from different sources) finally mentions 2 steps colder on the plugs for "applications that call for it." Plugs were mentioned before but heat range was not addressed. Also it's not a matter of "applications", just do it. Here's another dangerous statement from the site: "Do I need internal mods in my engine?? You should only need internal mods with a shot of about 100 or higher if higher then 100 then I recommend piston, rods, valves, springs, retainers, cams, cam gears.." (BTW, the 75 shot is regarded by the experienced Celica users as the highest we should go on the Celica on stock internals. Some even say no more than 50 shot, but I know some who have used a 75 shot just fine). There is some correct info, but considering all of the dangerous, incorrect, and potentially damaging info, I would never recommend that site.

Anyone post any other good write-ups if you know any.

yah spark plugs...they've got heat ranges. "colder" means they dissipate heat better. Less heat means less chance for detonation of knock and in the worst case engine damage. It's important to go colder for F/I.
