Okay, so I just took my 2000 Celica GT for it's 90,000 maintance service tune up at my usual Bob Smith Toyota in La Crescenta, CA. I had the check engine light on for some time, thought it was just my MAS(F?) sensor being dirty again, and they checked it for me for free. Turns out that they say I need a new catalytic converter and quoted me $1,130 for the part and $118.50 to install it. Do they think I'm rich...? I don't need a smog check until March 2006 and was wondering if driving with a bad catalytic converter is bad, ie decreased gas mileage, etc. I read a post that one forum member got the high flow Magnaflow OBD-II 2.25 inlet/outlet for $110, but the cheapest I found was at Magnaflow's website for $212. Does anyone know where I can find it the cheapest, whether online or anywhere in the Los Angeles, CA area? I called muffler shops in my area and got the basic $350 installed. My local muffler shop will install one for $70, but just gotta find it. I'm going to post this in other forums so most members can see my problem. Thanks in advance for any help on this subject matter.

i dont think it hurts performance just kills the environment thats all I know, I do feel bad because I do recycle, don't litter, but my 1966 Ford Mustang doesn't even have a catalytic converter and there's nothing I can do about that one. I'm still searching for the cat installed. Thanks again for the advice guys!!!

Thanks so much for that link. $55.57 ain't bad at all, except it's not the 2.25 inlet/outlet I need and it isn't CA stamped, but gonna call them up for a price on the actual one I need. Thanks so much!!!
