i know we have a working hood scoop, but it looks like to me that it only cools the exhaust manifold...is there a way to get the intake (CAI or SRI) somewhere near the hood scoop so that it can take in cooler outside air directly?

Well the hoodscope would be a bad location for it because of heat soak on the piping. However, making a custom intake that fit out the front grill and sucking in air that way has it's benifits, however it has a lot of downfalls too. The reason that the intake is located where it is, is because there are more things to consider than just air temp:

heat soak
accessibility to debris
accessibility to water
proper air movement through the MAF

it's not just about finding the coldest air. That's why it's in the wheel well.

before anything you think of, how would you fit the air filter right above the engine. the celica engine bay is already small, and if you put it right beneath the hoodscoop, its gonna be right above the engine so more heat and ur loss.
wut you can do though is put a big hoodscoop and make a pathway for the air under the hood starting from the bottom of the hoodscoop going all the way to the front of the short ram air cone. but then you dont really have the air coolin down the engine and i dont know if that will give you any harm

if you have the CAI, you already have some kind of ram effect, if you want to put it that way, becuase in the wheel well, its covered all the way around except for the front, where the fogs go out of, its a hole and air comes in through there!!
