My owner's manual says I need 91 Octane. I ran with Esso 91 octane since I bought the car, then the other day there was a gas sale at Chevron, so I put in Octane 92 ... & I noticed a difference, like more steady, smoother, harder pulls throughout the RPM band. Now I was wondering if going to Octane 94 is even better? Will the ECU advance timing based on what Octane Gas your using? Cause I know advance timing seems to give more jump to a car.

the car will run better the higher the octane but no real big jump in power. even if you go up to 100 octane. you may see 1-3 hp if you're lucky.

yes, the higher the octane the better, but as far as the noticible differences, I'm sorry to say but most of the time its just in your head. You'll only notice a descent difference on a large octane jump.

^^^ It isn't always better to use higher octane. There was a post a while back about GT owners using premo gas and feeling less power, and quite a few people agreed that some of the gas might not have been burning off. I can see that as entirely possible if you're using something like 100 octane on a stock GTS.

Well here in OZ our celicas are made for 95 ron fuel, but if you put in 91, it will retard timing, so I guess you will notice a difference..

I can see that as entirely possible if you're using something like 100 octane on a stock GTS. On a GT is a totally different story as its running lower compression. So 87 is good enough. But on a GTS with higher compression, the higher octane is necessary plus I really think it thrives on it, but only up to a certain point...like 94 tops, 100 is overkill.
