stage 1: Street use with emphasis on bottom to mid-range power...can be used with stock retainers and stock rev-limiter. RPM range idle to 7000+ rpm. Lobe Center 114 DEG. Duration is 268 / 260... even though stock is 274 / 260...however, duration at .050" of lift stock is 204 / 195... and stage 1 is 220 / 209

Stage 2: Designed specifically for supercharger / turbo, and their Titanium retainers must be used with the cams...duration is 262 / 262, and 211/211 at .050" of lift

Stage 3: Spring / Retainer kit required...Designed for street/Strip NA engines...rev range 1000 rpm to 7800 plus...duration is 272 / 272!!! and at .050" of lift they are at 224 / 224...lobe duration is 112 DEG.

STAGE 4, FULL RACE::: Spring / retainer kit required...RADICAL track use, requires ECU upgrade...rough idle...a gigantic 280 / 280duration at .010" of lift...and 232 / 232 at .050" of lift... FINALLY...THANK GOD...and Crower

no information on the 2zz...as they claim it is hard to reproduce...I'm currently arguing with them on this one right now...

the only real difference in the 2zz lift cam and a vtec cam is that the vtec cams have 3 lobes and the lift cams have 2...and they are producing the 3 lobe vtec cams right and left!!!!!..I don't see why they are having such trouble

they will not do 2zz cams they are too expensive to make.

this is an email response I got on 12/17/04

--------------------------------------------------
Nothing for the 2ZZ, only the 1ZZ.

The 2ZZ cam core is very difficult to reproduce.

ahhhh...sorry to hear that mike...any yes the 1zz are available for purchase...go to www.crower.com...they [crower.com...they] aren't listed under the toyota menu...but if you email info@crower.com they will send you the same information...I'd say the easiest thing would be to get the number and call them and place the order...these are gonna rock...JUST gotta get the money together...and the $1,000 for the install

good for the 1zz people but us 2zz people are screwed so you gt s will probably end up faster than us if they keep making the parts for you and even if they do make the parts for us they are way more expensive

^^^^^ I don't know...it was a guess...I've never done headwork before, and when I had it built I had everything done all at once...most places around here charge $450 for a simple swap of fully assembled heads... and I was thinking about the stage 3 setup...they'd have to pretty much build it again

I don't understand this. They can build new and better internals for 1ZZ but not 2ZZ. Companies have lost their damn minds to not develop parts for a car thats been around since '72.

Pricing is $438 for the pair, $356 for the spring and titanium retainer kit

what do they mean pairs? and would you need to get the spring and titanium retainer kit? pretty much am i going to be saving closer to 900 bucks for the cams or just 438?

Who did you hear 240whp from? If it was me, then i really dont know what HP figure was made. My shop at the time was a fraud so lord knows if they told the truth about that frown

TPR Intake! - Injens high end with AEM's low end and NO BOGGING!
TPR EXHAUST! - Exhaust made 10.5 whp peak and 32 whp at 6300 on my car!!!

^^ nobody knows the gains yet cause they arent out. peopl eare speculating.

also if you think they are charging $1100 - $1400 cause they think you'll pay it youre nuts.

crower stated their reasoning is difficulty. they obviously have an unlimited time and budget.

believe me when I say these ARE NOT CHEAP to make. especially in the measly 10 - 20 per order quantities. you're lucky they are coming out at all.

basically every company's opinion is that the juice is not worth the squeeze.

the 2zz cam is NOT a bad cam. it's also a very well developed cam so it's gonna be very difficult to make a better one du to the materials and setup of the stock system.

I think 438 is a good price for 5-15whp. Look at how much gains you get from an intake, exhaust, header, pullies, etc. NA cars are expensive to mod, but more safe...in my opinion. I think that the cams will provide more benefits than an I/H/E setup. Plus, I am sure that there will be a bit of a torque/acceleration gain much better than i/h/e. I'm just defending the price.

Just my 2 cents

Dan

hmmm, if it improves the availability of the HP/torque, it will make the car a lot faster, despite the peak numbers not changing much.. low end torque rules

for the GTS, the 1st TPR cam will be concentrating on low - midrange power. it will only slighty alter the top end.

he took this route first cause of soo many people that wont wanna save up and buy a power fc. too aggressive on the high end will be worthless without engine management.

I'm hoping to see some crazy low end numbers. the top end will come eventually.

the mugen cam's for the RSX turned out 20 whp on the dyno. crower is one of the best companies in the industry so its safe to say gains will be pretty nice, depending on your setup and tuning thumbsup

option a) get some knee pads and some lube and offer yourself to the dyno-guy as he gives you a special discount for your services

option b)suck it up because performance and tuning ain't cheap... rofl

you would need a completely built head with new valves, stiffer springs, and stronger retainers to hit above 8k in a GT... matt at Monkey wrench hits 8300 rpm with his turboed 1zz spyder but all of his engine is built using the MWR parts

1zz is def old motor
2zz is new when celica was introduced
and they are still altering it
they should make a really powerful motor with lift that would be nutz

yeah, but heard they are testing for more low end to mid range power
in short, im not expecting radical high end gains.
im still interested in tpr's headers. r they still coming out?

if you do it that would be great, 225whp in a 2500lbs car, n/a = sick as F...
but even with cams i dont see you break 200whp without a decent header...
...well maybe with a custom cat back..idk idunno

you have no proof that you're even close. G-tech doesnt count. we cant even verify you used the correct inputs.

the current best on the boards is 194 whp and it was never duplicated or verified within 1%. his 2nd highest dyno same mods was 188 whp.

I'm at 185whp. you WILL NOT be hitting 225 whp like I alread stated in your other thread. I understand you're excited about the mods you "think" gave you power but please don't spread bad information cause you really have NO CLUE what kinda power you have.

thanx thumbsup

rofl that sux.

you will need an air compressor to get the cam sprocket off/on correctly. you'll have to tape up the first hole on the cam and then blow the air in. this lifts a locking pin that will release the cam. if you DONT do this you wont get it off. and if you dont get it right when you re-install it, you wont have VVT any more thumbsup

other then that it isnt too hard.

stage 1 because i just lookin for a little better take off, n/a

i have all the tools i need compressor (my dad is a mechanic by trade) and we have a hot rod/custom business, just when it comes to doing something spefic id never done before i get a lil nervous, im sure it will be fine though.

when i work with chevy 350's a such they are such simple beasts you cant really mess anything up, but the celi is different and i just dont wanna screw up so i ask the pros (aka, lucky) smile when i get to do the install you might have to give me ur cell number or sumthin, haha i might need help.

and I'm uploading a short video clip of his car at idle. it sounds so freakin smooth. better then brand new even. if you didnt look at the intercooler or under the hood you'd swear the car was stock. you don't hear that typical valvetrain "tick".

we added the mwr springs/valves and cams. should be ready in a few minutes.

I just got done looking at the tech manual under the gallery section and WOW!!!!! Its gonna take me an entire DAY (making sure I really pay attention to detail)...it doesn't look like you have to remove the engine in order to just do the camshafts...or the crank pulley or anything like that...should be cool...for John, mike or illusive,...Am I right in that you don't have to remove the entire engine if you don't want to (I don't have a hoist and have never taken the engine out of my celica...very scary...and I am avoiding it altogether if I can help it)...I'll probably just take off the hood and head cover to do them...and of course the timing cover to get to the timing chain...it looks pretty straight forward, especially since I don't have to remove the head to do it...

I haven't actually taken it for a spin yet. Currently the strut is broken, we are waiting on the piece in the mail to fix the strut. It should be here today or tomorrow at the latest. I will update how it feels once we fix the strut.

you need to check valve clearance also with the new cams installed and make sure the gap is within spec, that can be found on a sticker under your hood

theres a specific pattern you need to follow when removing the cam bridges, since toyota cams are hollow you can actually break the cam if removed improperly,

theres also a retorq pattern and 2 different torq specs one for the main bridge that crosses both cams and another for the individual bridges for i/e

there is also an easy trick to use for putting the cams back on with out having to pull the timing chain tensioner, but I'm not going to tell anyone that unless your a VERY experienced mechanic becuase if you do not know what you are doing you WILL break the timing chain slipper and that will require pulling the engine to fix.

I always think of certain someone who broke the slipper the first time he tried it lol

I don't like to risk it so I just pull the tensioner out.

im about half way done, im just having trouble gettin the cams out with the sprockets still atached, i dont wanna fuck up the timing, so i might wait for lucky to log on later tonight...

besides me doubting myself it has been easy

1) bring up to TDC
2) remove vave cover
3) verify that the TDC is on the compression stroke and dots match on cam sprockets
4) remove cam berring cap bolts
5)remove chain tensioner
6) remove cam shaft assemblies (where im stuck)!
7)
8)...

since silvaceli dyno'd his gt auto with exhaust @ 110whp i'm thinking with intake and cams you'll be around 120-ish...any bets? rofl grin

111!!! What now. I am hoping he reaches 130 whp thumbsup But regardless any improvement is a big improvement when its that low.

i still say 120-ish...but the peak hp is not what matters...i want to see how it improved the power curve...if all is well i may think about going n/a when/if i get an mr-2 instead of a 2ZZ swap

True. True. I was looking at that gts auto dyno with all the nitrous shots on it and he was making 154 whp (and 110? tq) without the shots. Im only making 153 whp but I would rape a non fi auto gts.

well your power curve seems to be a lot better at the lower rpms than an auto gts...if you look at the auto gts it only makes 100whp max before lift...everyone knows that when the auto gts shifts it drops out from 7800rpm to 5000 rpm...that is teh suxors..

I'm tuning my car tomorrow, wont have any numbers just yet because we just doing street tuning. But will get an idea of how the car is running once tuned. Will get on a dyno shortly after just to fine tune it to try and extract extra power and then i will have some numbers.
