Alright well on the freeway yesterday my clutch went out. Now the transmission is off and the view aint pretty.
I need help deciding if I should get a flywheel or just racing clutch.
What does everyone think about the RPS Sport Clutch compared to the SPEC one?
Do I need to get a sprung hub clutch or does it not matter?
I do race often and I want something that can handle downshifting good and give me good response yet be friendly to my transmission.
Also dont have to much money but do I really need a lighweight flywheel or would it be ok to leave my stock one on??
I need to order the parts tomorrow so any input is greatly appreciated.

I just put the RPS sport clutch in my car about a month ago and I'm pretty happy with it. I had it installed when they replaced my 2nd gear and synchros. As for downshifting, the guy at the dealership who did the work on my car (who actually owned a Celica too) told me that my synchros got fucked up from downshifting. He told me that Celicas are not meant to be downshifted at any kind of speed. I have a GT and he said it's even worse on the GTS. So I would be careful about downshifting, I know I'm a lot more careful now after it cost me about 2 grand to get everything done. Good luck.

All I hear is that the RPS street part# SS-22549-ST is great for an OEM repalcement and the part# SS-22549-SP is great also. If you want a cheaper flywheel I think Fidanza is the cheapest and one of the lightest if not the lightest. If you don't have the money, any good shop probably will have to resurface your stock flywheel anyway do to abuse. They will knock off a pound or two or a pound if that.

trd japan clutch is good...
also, you dont need a new flywheel... just get the stock one resurfaced.

What kind of racing are you talking about?
Your car isn't making enough power to really justify using a "racing" clutch. It's really just wasted money.

I got a fidanza flywheel, its been in for about two months now, it works good, the engine definitely responds better, and the flywheel is really light, I think it's 7-8 lbs, whereas most are 9lbs.

yes you need sprung-hubbed clutches. the majority of stage 1-3 have a sprung hub and maybe a stage 4 depending on the brand. The purpose is to reduce drivetrain shock on clutch engagement, and also to help transmit the torque thrust to the hub.

Well I decided to go with the SPEC Stage 2 and stock flywheel for now. I do plan on going turbo and the two techs I talked to said not to get the fidanza flywheel. Will see how it turns out.
