Which one is better, the Injen RD CAI or the Injen Short Ram intake? Which gives more power?

Injen RD CAI, i got one myself, but haven't installed it yet. the weather is tooo cold outside grin

It depends how worried you are about hydrolocking. If you're in a very rainy area where puddles prevail, consider the short ram. Otherwise go with the CAI. If you drive an auto, I would go with the short ram as the CAI only gives you high gains, even though both give you noticeable power and sound across the entire power band.

Man I would have to say the short-ram...The CAI leaves too much to worry about kinda. Go with the short ram.

im just suggesting the ebay intakes like BOMZ are better then getting the real thing because infact they do the samething, but are 1/4 the price of a major brand name one! But i guess you didnt know that because you probably already bought an intake that probably cost you about $230 while you could of got it for $33 on a replicated one and you know what? It does the exact samething except it doesnt say injen or aem on it and it doesnt come wit a carb sticker,but you can go down to injen and ask for one anyways

Well, I'm thinking that the replicas don't have the actual gains that Injen's do, because there are these things called patents. Which means that other makers can't steal there designs. Oh, they can come really close to it, but it won't be the same. The only way I'd believe them being just as good, is if you showed me proven dynos on the two. But I just posted what I did because it looked like you were posting on here just to promote your business, not because you were a Celica enthusiast or something like that. Spamming our board is not cool. thumbsdown

cmon guys, evilgsr's car is running EBAY parts all the way, from Exterior to Interior and Internals... thats why he loves EBAY so much... rofl

Short Ram, easy maintenance for filter, eventhough its Short you can still feel the power.

CAI, maintenance on the filter is a bitch, taking your front end off, cleaning the filter then put it back on, it depends on you as well if it doesnt rain a lot at your place, most specially flood... not recommending.

i wish i have a CAI but weather here is weird, rain, shine, rain, shine...

The funny thing is my car is still probably faster then yours because i didnt waste $230 on a intake and actually spent it towards on a real mod!

ok guys...couldnt help but notice this...since the day i got my gts back in 00 (when barely anyone had one), i've had the aem cai, rmm short ram, injen rd cai, and now an aem replica from ebay i got for $35.

compared to my aem, the replica had exact same diameter, width, length, location and angles of bends, and filter position. power feels EXACTLY as my aem, and my times at the track have been consistent as before. so i dont think you guys should jump to conclusions so fast...it IS possible to replicate a simple pipe.

since i still have my aem, i will dyno with both soon and show you results. i'll probably post it on the nc.org site in the dyno list...also, i'll try to get access to an airflow measurement system here at berkeley, and see if i can get some data on the air flow comparisons of different intakes...

doing this because this has been a topic extensively discussed on nc.org with lots of info on all intakes, which is y i post there usually..

WUTS WITH THE FLAMING on this forum??! evilgsr posts regularly at nc.org, and i think he was just tryin to help you guys out...from experience, the 35 dollar one is no different from any of my others

just a suggestion...jack drivers side up, take off wheel, slide aside wheel well plastic, get to filter. no bumper removal no nothing. omg, havent you figured that out yet???

also, if you want you can just turn ur wheel to one side, and get it from behind the plastic without jackin the car up, because i know someone who got his filter jacked in a parking lot!

also, my rmm short ram sucked in lotsa engine heat, bogged sometimes, and gains not too great, especially when motor is hot

your filter needs to be completely submerged to hydrolock

call me brand conscious but i usually buy something that has a brand name, especially for my car..if you guys buy sh*t from Ebay, well, im one of you..i buy stuff off of Ebay too but i see to it that the product is from a trusted company..and i dont think there's nothing wrong with buying replicas..i didnt pay $230 for my AEM CAI, i got it for a hundred less from Ebay..peace!

i heard it doesnt have to be "completely submerged" i heard if any water comes in contact with the filter.. it will suck it like a prostitute workin for that money lol ahahaha goodjob

belive me i live a half hour away so i hit the same puddles you do though i do get worried sometimes cause i have hit some deep ones before... i had CAI on my lancer and i went through what seamed like a lake the car stalled but after 5 min it was fine so like i said i would not worry to much

hey all,

i got the injen rd cai and think its great, smooth power delivery and quality design, finish, and looks in a sweet iodized red color option. i live in philly so get plenty of rain and drove through plenty of puddles an dnever had a problem yet. also you can get a bypass valve from injen for a bit extra that may help out a bit but don't think you really need it. from dyno tests you get a bit more overall power over the short ram with the cai. well never used any cheaper imitation performance products on my car and i don't plan to either, well this is just my opinion but i'd get the injen cai or if not that then the injen short ram, but either way you'll be cool and make a good choice so your call man,

anyone have pics of the injen CAI with a bypass valve installed? i havent seen a injen bypass.. only the aem bypass and a universal bypass which one should i get? and how much are they??? wave wave

Its worth the installation. Its not that hard, but if you have ne mechanic skills, it could be a pain. To make it easier, you can take the bumper off. The hardest part for me was putting the bumper back on. I just took my CAI off and didn't even bother with the bumper, took a good amount of time off too.
