any advantages with using a hi flow cat on our cars? would it help any or just change the sound?

won't do either from what I have heard. Our cats are pretty high flowing already.

Exactly, your aftermarket "hi-flow" cat might actually be more restrictive.

i was told the same thing that Chaz said! That the celica has a very high flow cat already..

almost everything stock in the celica is made pretty good. for instance, a manual gts rates at 180 bhp, and dynos usually throw it around to the 160 whp mark...a loss of only 20 horsies in this case in considerred EXCELLENT.

there is always and definately room for improvement though. i was just making the point that the celica is put together very well from the get-go.

a highflow cat (such as magnaflow's) wouldn't hurt though...it's not more restrictive, but it's not much more free-flowing, either. it'll help, but only a little. this may or may not be worth the $$ to you.

i think "High Flow" for anything in the exhaust path is a waste of money if you put it on our cars. Really wouldn't make a noticable improvement.

Would buying, say the maganflow cat that will fit our cars the best give out less emissions and also keep the performance the same (or better) or is it generally if the less you pollute, the more power you lose?

i don't understand what you are saying

the trial & dc sports header are 'high flow' and they give out usually 7-9 whp

almost all exhaust systems are 'high flow' and they give out around 3-5 whp


anything that is less restrictive = better, as a rule of thumb thumbsup

it would give out about the same emissions, and performance would be the same or better.

and yes..generally, the more you pollute the more power you have. that's just the nature of the beast. it's not saying that pollution = more power, it's that way because we try NOT to pollute. so to NOT pollute more, we put things (such as our catalytic converter) in our exhausts path that restrict the exhausts flow..which decreases power.

supposedly in the future, we will run off of hydrogen (at least thats what they are trying to do) so there will be no harmful emissions which therefore means we won't have a cat at all.
