Heres a tip I've been meaning to post for a while now, if you really want lift to hit you strongly, a BIG push forward not small like normal lift then get your engine cold (like in the morning) and let the temp indicator go up one from the completely cold position

EX.
After going up from this position: ______

Sorry, no camera, lol

Now rev up to 6200 RPM's and SHIFT!!!!!! You will be kicked forward much more than normal lift, the kick is much more notisable.

Sorry if this post makes no sense at all, wrote it while watching T.V., lol post questions if you have any.

you are contradicting yourself, if you shift at 6200 then you are not hitting lift at all, and if the car is cold it will not even go into lift.

so what are you trying to say?

this is a genious way to damage your motor, and not to mention the lift is in no way different than it is at normal temperature. Anytime your car has not had sufficient time to warm itself up, everything will feel jerky and harder, creating to illusion to someone such as yourself that your car somehow has more power. But I guess even in all your wisdom you managed to forget that if you put a 6' spoiler on your hatch you can fly too

Actually I do it after school, when it just takes my car a minute to get to that temperature, and I just use my Action package spoiler, but of course you woulnt know that now would you because you just asume that I'm a damn ricer who will put a building sized tail on my car, just to make it look fast.

crespo_h69, what you posted sounds so mega-noobie dude. And of course, I checked your profile and your only 17 and don't know what the heck factory body kit is on your ride?! That totally sounds ignorant and like mom n dad bought you your car. Regardless, I suggest you do a lot of internet research about the car your driving, and learn about it enough so that you don't make a fool of yourself by posting stupid posts about it. All this talk about shifting at 6200rpm, when the car won't even engage lift if you only got one tick mark on the temp gauge. It sounds too crazy and just too ridiculous man. rolleyes

You are embarrassing us 17 year olds...oh wait, I turn 18 tomorrow smile. Seriously, before you even raise your tach meter beyond 6.2k again, I suggest learning a little more about your engine before you destroy it. But then again, if you destroy it your parents will probably just buy you another one rolleyes

First thing, whatever you smoking, can I get some too?

Second, the rev is limited to like 6500 or something like that when your engine is cold and there is no lift at all. And if you're shifting at 6200rpm, when lift actually engages, you would be shifting and making the rpms go back down so there would be no lift to begin with.

Crespo sorry about all the bashing you are recieving, but you kind of deserve it. frown

Also, stop reving your engine that high when your engine is cold, it is not lift, its just your engine jerking harder because it didnt have time to warm up.

Lesson learned thumbsup

Yeah, apparently, but the thing is that when I asked about heating just about everyone joined in telling me that it was ok to drive it after a minute of heating IF it had been driven before on the same day.

Also, wasnt the guy asking how to open a hood up or wondering wether it was a GT or GTS, its on the back of the car for goodness sakes.

crespo, none of that conversation included lift. I think the point was that it was OK to drive a car started from cold after about a minute IF you didn't rev it much (anyway, that was my input on the subject). Revving and hitting lift is altogether much harder on an engine if it hasn't been properly warmed up. The problem is, the engine oil hasn't heated up much, and its not flowing as well as when its warm. Revving puts a lot of stress on the engine, and it needs good oil flow to deal with the added friction from the stress.

Here's what I usually do:

1) Startup, the engine is cold, wait for about a minute to warm up.

2) Go ahead and start driving, but don't rev much, and shift early to keep revs low (not much more than 3K, if possible).

3) After running for about 5-10 minutes, the engine should be warmed up enough to go ahead and rev it, and possibly hit lift.

Now, I live in the Phoenix area, which has pretty warm weather, and I see you're in Long Beach, which in winter is probably pretty similar to Phoenix. My typical "cold" temperature is about 40 deg Fahrenheit. But if you lived in a colder spot, you'd want to warm the engine up more before revving much. I hope that helps.

And hey, don't worry about the bashing. We all had to learn from somewhere, so everyone was a noob once.

Thanks man, yeah you got to learn some way I guess, lol, just thought it was a good idea, I do it a lot because I'm not careful with 1st gear, thats the only one I do it on. But I still stand on one of my statements: It feels nice as hell grin

i've raced and hit lift a few times when the bar was up 2 places right before the regular middle spot... is this still really bad for the engine?

Holy shit, I've been lurking around, not wanting to post, but I couldn't help myself on this one. Crespo, you ARE the stupid ricer that you're claiming you're not. For the sweet love of MILFs and everythign holy, don't post stupid shit like this. It only lowers the integrity and intelligence of thsi entire fucking forum. If dumbasses like you would quit posting gay topics like this, research their own shit for a change, people would actually learn some shit browsing this place.

Ok, correct me if im wrong, but i though the car would go into lift, even though the temp gauge wasnt all the way warmed up...just thought the rev limiter kicks in at earlier rpm...but i cant remember since its been so long since i have drove my 2k. Like if i remember my car hit the limiter at 7200rpm when not warmed up,

^ No, its actually inhibited from entering lift when its cold. Personally, I don't bother with lift unless its 100% warmed up (i.e., the gauge is at the normal "running termperature") location. You could do it earlier, but I just don't see why you wouldn't want to wait until its fully warmed up.

...yeah so while were on the topic of lift and since everyone is willing to come here to flame me, is it better to use lift throughout a race or just red line it? I mean I know it might be hard to hit it consecutively but just wondering if it would be better to use lift or not.

Not totally sure I understand the question, but are you saying should you use lift when racing? Are you aware that that is really the only spot in the rpm range that has much power in the celica? You'd get raped by civic dx's if you didn't go into lift. If you were asking whether or not to take it to redline, you should probably take it to 8k at least. If I am truly racing, I go to around 8.3k just before the rev limiter to shift. This way I get the most out of lift and land each gear in lift. If you want to be safer, take it to around 8k and shift.

So does lift last longer if you land in it (i.e. shift from a 1st gear and land at 6200)?

I thought lift was at 62? I thought red lining was higher, before the red-line, thus the name, am I wrong?

i am amazed. when you are red lining it, you're IN LIFT. crazy

I thought lift was at 62? I thought red lining was higher, before the red-line, thus the name, am I wrong?

Yeah, lift kicks in at 6200. Then you go up to redline and shift there. In the NEXT gear, you will (hopefully) still be in lift. So yeah, in a race, the idea is to stay in lift as much as possible.
