"The GTS has one very serious drawback, however: too much engine for too little car. The GTS comes with a four-cylinder, 1.8-liter, 180-horsepower engine, and, with a weight of only 2,500 pounds, it exceeds our proposed 0.06 horsepower-to-weight limit by a good 20 percent. It's difficult to drive this car responsibly, in our humble opinion. It makes you drive like a maniac" Just read this on this web site ---> http://www.cartalk.com/content/testdrives/Reviews/toyota-celica-2001.html What do you guys think? Is too much engine our one very serious drawback?

IMO "Visibility is pretty good. Unlike most cars with high deck lids, the Celica, with a lot of side glass and a large rear window, makes it reasonably easy to see out the back." "...God forbid you should be driving past a school and trying to figure out if you're over the 35 mph speed limit. You'd need a magnifying glass!" "The Celica has that loud, "Hey! Look at me!" styling undoubtedly intended for the young boys and girls who will make up most of the clientele. But the two-door-coupe segment of the market is always driven by fashion, so what do you expect? This is a car of the Pokemon era." "...If you're shopping for a sporty hatchback, you should also consider the Ford Focus ZX3 (taller, cheaper, good handling)..." :hellno: "...you're going to buy a car that may look silly to you a few years from now..." "...we'd say to opt for the base Celica GT. It's got 40 fewer horsepower and it's $4,500 cheaper--and that's before you begin to add up the speeding tickets and bail-bondsman fees you'd be racking up in the GTS."

I'm a big car talk fan.
Car talk is a NPR radio show for baby-boomers. I like them because they are so funny!

To add to the comments above... "...you might find friends refusing to ride with you before long." Fine by me, walk bithces! I don't care "It's difficult to drive this car responsibly, in our humble opinion. It makes you drive like a maniac." Ok I only drive like a maniac when some jackass forces me too :notanangel: "When, at great risk to our inseams, we first lowered ourselves into the bucket seats, we took an immediate dislike to the GTS." Then perhaps you should loose some weight fatass!! You know this was prolly some out of shape, uptight sob who didn't like the car from the jump. I, for one, don't have any problems getting in and out of my car thank you "The Celica may look small on the outside, but once you're behind the wheel you realize that it's really, really small on the inside. Seated normally, even a dog would not have enough headroom in the back." To this I say I only make a habit of transporting myself and my dog (who fits just nicely in his car seat) so "We did find that the dashboard vents were a little tricky to get used to, but even we got the hang of them eventually." Ok moron how hard it is to open the vent and then TURN it if need be to get the direction you desire "...if you're looking at this type of car, styling and fashion will probably determine what you get as much as anything. So do whatever you want. What do we care?" WE DON'T!! :whatever: "If you're going to buy a car that may look silly to you a few years from now, at least you'll be getting one that doesn't break down." If I thought it looked silly I wouldn't have bought it "Unless you're hell-bent on breaking every land speed record known to man, we'd say to opt for the base Celica GT. It's got 40 fewer horsepower and it's $4,500 cheaper--and that's before you begin to add up the speeding tickets and bail-bondsman fees you'd be racking up in the GTS." I have yet to get pulled over let alone get a ticket (knock on wood) Result: 0 out of 3 people found this review helpful

I don't agree with much of anything in that article,it just anoyed me more and more as I read it. I think all these guys drive is Buicks, and how is the Couger the most closely matched to the Celica... just goes to show how much they think of the car. Funny how Raod and Track, Motortrend, and so on don't complain about the Celica... if i remember correctly they greatly enjoyed the car. Then again these ppl actually know a think or two about cars, and actually like to drive.

They are real commies when it comes to cars! They think everyone should have 80HP and drive the safest vehicle like a Volvo. They wouldnt have a show if they couldnt talk about Volvos!

well, click & clack are indeed old school.
their radio show "car talk" is actually quite entertaining. they are somewhat local in this region (cambridge/boston) but they are a national program. their perspectives and reviews are very peculiar but then again we are of a different generation.

"The combination of an overpowered engine and a six-speed manual transmission makes it difficult to accelerate smoothly, especially at low speeds. This is the kind of thing you might get used to, but it's also the kind of thing that would bother passengers a lot more than drivers," What is that crap i never once had a problem

This is the first bad article twards the celica ive ever read. All the other articles said it was a good car. The only bad comments Ive heard were the interior scratching and the lower torque. I for one like the smaller interior. Saves me from being the dd.

They had the wrong guy do the test drive. Seems like this guy wants every car to be a family wagon. They should only let him test drive the Volvos.

Can't believe he said that a Focus ZX3 is a better car when compared to the Celica. I drove a ZX3 for 1 month as my transition car from my GT to my GTS and it was probably the worst car EVER. My girl can even vouch for it.
