ok i have this ticking/knocking sound soming from the top left of my manifold. kinda by the first spark plug from the left. It may be coming from my lift bolt area and ive been having as little truoble with the lift bolts so i prolly need to check them out even though i just replaced them. could it be valve ticking?? what can i do to fix that? isnt there a treatment fluid or whatever?
sorry for the long post thanks...

could be bent valve, could be our loud injectors, could be a lot of things. You should go get a compression test to be on teh safe side to see if you have a bent valve. Our cars do have loud valves.

the lift bolts would in no way make a ticking sound.

our valve train is VERY loud. also your valve clearance will change over time. you might wanangive that a check and make sure everything is on the up & up. if the roller side is off compared to the slipper side, you'll get an anoying tick. ask anyone at the last so cal meet how my car sounded rofl you could hear the tick louder then the exhaust (which is hella loud with no muffler)

so give that a shot and see what happens. thumbsup

I've got an obnoxious ticking in my engine how do I check the lifters and potentially adjust them? If you had a link to a step by step or could explain briefly so I could use this information in conjunction with the Chilton to correct this issue I'd be grateful.

Read the third post down on this old thread: https://celicahobby.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/431048/valve-adjustment.html

Basic info, but still good info. Also as that poster pointed out, remember that these cars have naturally loud valvetrains. The ZZ family is known to sound a bit like a lawnmower lol.
