ok, i wanted SRI but i wanted it to pick up colder air than typical SRI which sits right behind radiator = hot air. My attempt was to create a SRI that sits like TPR SRI. Mission accomplished, here are the pics.

If this continues to perform the way it does right now i will upgrade to genuine K&N filter and replace the blue coupler with black or silver. Car actually bogs less now than with stock airbox.

i tried to pic it up on the pictures, but there is a small hole right at the tip of the filter, and to the right there is a nice area that goes down the side of the bumper, you can see the gravel of my driveway in both pictures, of course its not gonna be as cold as CAI but it is a big improvement over typical SRI, i have been popping the hood right after a couple long trips and the temp difference is drastic between two areas, i'm looking also into formulating a heatshield or induction box to block the air coming from the radiator

Would you mind detailing what you did? I this just the CAI without the second tube or did you have to cut the first tube shorter? Whats keeping it in place other than the TB sleeve?

I cut the tube, this was an AEM replica so it was 1 piece. I originally tried to place the filter farther down which did not work out, but the final product was just one cut after the MAFS adaptor before it bends down. It is still held in place by same vibra-mount it came with that connect right near fuse box.
Thanks for the comments i really enjoy this intake the more i drive with it the more i enjoy it, can't believe i waited this long to get an intake, lol.
BTW i have around $35 in this, haha

No CEL yet for me, doesn't mean it will work for everyone, it doesn't have fins like TPR does but its also only has a straight path of air through the MAFS. Like all intakes i imagine it will respond differently to different cars. Its really no problem at all to make, 1 cut with hacksaw, tubing cuts really easy, just buy an AEM replica off ebay or from someone selling it on one of these forums and cut it right before the bend, file it smooth and wash out any metal filings, mounts same way as normally, and pick up a breather filter for the hose that normally connects lower down, easy as pie, did it all in under 3 hours, including taking stock airbox out, and i've never done an intake install before.

hmmm.. i guess if people are really interested in this i can make a few in my spare time, i won't make guarantees as to no CEL cause this is not perfect like TPR intake but just looking at materials cost i could make these for $85shipped, what kills is the breather filters are expensive $10 and i would have to pay shipping twice, once to me, and then again to whoever buys it, although i think shipping out the second time should be less since it will be smaller, but anyway didn't plan on making these but if anyone is seriously interested you can pm me and we'll talk.

How funny i just did the exact same thing to the e-bay cai the ass before me had put on the GT.,on sunday. on the gt its alittle more cutting since the tb is at an angle. hey scott03 have you felt dif as in engine range. i for some reason feel that it acelerates faster. like it revs faster..

it reving faster is very possible for you because it lets your engine breathe better, it probably does that for me too but its hardly noticable compared to the fidanza flywheel i have that revs like crazy. I feel like i might have more torque in normal driving range, but lift definitely feels stronger. Nothing drastic durring normal driving, i figure whatever gains normally occur with sock flywheels are increased slightly with my fidanza since more gains at flywheel reach the wheels.

thats the same 1 my gt had. i cut it right before the curve after the maf sensor. just put the breather filter on the little vac where the hose was.

Hey why not just save the piece that you cut off the end so you can switch between an SRI and a CAI like the TPR dose.

that would be the breather filter, and the piping diameter is somewhere around 2.75.

if you disconnect from intake pipe be sure to plug the whole you connected it to, i don't see any advantage to doing this other than not disrupting air flow.

i have the same set up on my celi..but i used the stock black air tube that came out of the throttle, and connect that to the ebay cai that been cut to pieces..i've manage to get set the filter lower, next to where the wheel well suppose to be cut..i'll take some pics tomorrow..

^^ Thanks...the wheel well has been cut already..if you kneal down next to the tire you can see the filter..remember, this WAS my ebay CAI b4 i start cutting it into pieces trying to get rid of the bogging problem..now i have none..i wouldn't care for the injen heat shield..i've run like this in rains and thru puddle but not a drop of water got on the filter..u would think that the hole on the wheel well would splat water into there..but when i go to look, there wasn't any water on the underside plastic..under the car is all wet but inside was pretty dry..i need to get a different cai and mod it like this for a cleaner look, but until then this will do just fine..oh yeah, i can still manage to take the filter out thru the engine bay just fine to clean it..don't have to jack the car up or remove the bumper or nothing..

that looks nice, i tried putting the filter right there at first but couldn't manage to make it fit. Using the stock tubing it seems allows you to angle the filter more left to right.

With the heat shield I was thinking; have the opening facing the hole in the wheel well plastics and the actual shield part facing the engine to block any radiant heat and hot air from the engine.
This could even be taken a step further by building a sheet metal box around the filter with an opening to the wheel well hole, thus walling off the filter from any engine bay heat.
