i just recently bought new rims for my celica gts. They are 17 D power racing rims from japan with khumo ecsta 712. My question is, if the rim weighs 18 pounds, would it make my car slower. Specially when racing. Since i'm new here and still have no pics, i drive a 2002 yellow celica gts. Mods-eibach pro-kit springs, injen intake, custom cat back eshaust with no res 21/2 inch pipe all the way, full trd body kit,

stock 5 spoke 16 inch wheels are 19 lbs!

so your 1 lb lighter. I dont see them affecting performace THAT much as for acceleration. I do see them hurting you off the line. since you have to run a skinnier sidewalled tire to accomidate a larger rim. Skinny sidewalled tires are not good for drag racing, but great for auto Xing or road racing.

Even if the the rims are lighter, you might be slower if the overal diameter of the wheel increased. This would be caused by either more inertial weight and/or the taller effective final gear ratio.
