i say s2k. theyre more reliabie. by saying that i mean if anything happens to the m3, damage is gonna cost you more. plus s2k is gonna be having less miles i assume from being newer. ive driven an s2k so i can tell is one hell of a fun car to drive. the styling of the s2k is better and fresher than the old m3 body.
but one thing matters, go test drive both of them and see it urself.

Depends what the cars gonna be used for and if you the only one that's gonna be driving it. If it's gonna be a daily driver I suggest the M3, since it does have 4 seats and a fairly large trunk. If it's just for fun on the weekends, then the S2K!

get the m3 coupe, the inline 6 240hp way more torque than the s2000, definitely more of a man's car! id say m3 all the way! c'mon there's no comparison!

I think that most girls would be getting exciting if you mention an S2000 after the Honda. The BMW is nice and luxurious, but I have to go with the S2k. Sportier, faster (low 14 high 13 car), BMW is what mid-high 14's? Plus the 98 models are like a box. S2k WAY SEXIER.

^^Don't bet on it. The times they run are roughly the same. And we're talking E36 M3 as opposed to the E46. I'd go M3. Coupe is more practical too. The blue/white propeller is a helluva lot more prestigious than that goddam H. BMW presents an image of a more mature/professional man, while the S2K screams "boy racer"

I see where your going the BMW itself says mature/professinal and only by itself compared to the S2K, but if you step out of either cars in a $200 suit, the newer fresher, sportier look of the S2K would look more high class. Yes the BMW has its reputation and if it was the newer model M3 then yes the M3 is the way to go, but its not. The older models are like a box, no curves or style (on the cosmetic side), just plain flat 4 sides.

Hmmm... tough choice! I wouldn't buy an E36 just because of luxurious or BMW brand, but because of it's engine, suspension and handling. But S2k engine is also an extra ordinary engine and it's drop top. Hmmmmm... But it got no torque. So, E36 for me all the way.

well motor trend has the s2ooo in third place in overall performance, the only cars that beat it was the porsch 911 and the corvette zo6, for fun driving i say the S2k, but for daily driving get the BMW!! good luck in making your decesion bud!

BMW > Honda
You're like comparing Jessica Alba to a...contestant from "The Swan"! But since it's a S2k you speak of, I guess it'd be the contestant after all the plastic surgery and shit, but still ugly (Honda) on the inside.

old beamer is kinda played out already. i would probably go with the s2k. as people said, its a lot fresher in the styling department. Plus the current m3 is gonna stop production because theyre commin out with a new body soon, so the e36 is gonna be a few bodies old. go with the s2k, ull have more fun with it

Beamer is like a vespe. Common mistake. 2. Current M3 is E46, not E36. New body will NOT be the E56(as much as it makes sense) but the E90. Powered by essentially the M5 V10 minus two cylinders. 3. Owning a BMW will always be more expensive than owning a Honda. Either way, you're guarenteed thrills.

M3 for sure. I have owned an M3 and driven an s2000 and the M3 is in a different league. The M3 is more comfortable, much faster (well at least euro spec ones which have 321hp!), nicer to drive, engine sounds much better and it has more prestige despite its age.
S2000 generation 1 is a tricky car to drive fast, not sure if 2001 is still the gen 1 version, generation 2 are fine, in fact good but I am only aware about European versions, American ones could be different.
If you are seriously looking at Honda why not look at the Integra Type R. There's a reason numerous car magazines have voted it the best handaling front wheel drive car of all time!
Comparing the M3 and the S2000 is like comparing apples to oranges. Both have there place and what you do in it will decide which is the better one.
S2000 is not that much cheaper to look after than the M3. This old stereotype that BMW's are expensive to look after is false these days. My VW cost the same to service as my Bmw. However when certain things go wrong on the M such as the exhaust (back box), it is serious money. The M3 isn't as reliable as the s2000 but it is a hell of a lot more fun. Whats more, you can carry friends, shopping etc whilst still looking stylish.

yeah that is a hard choice but i think the m3 is more practial and can be just as fun. not to mention i think they can out perform an s2k. its really a win win situation though, but if you do get a s2k spend the extra 2 gs and get a hard top

snipe12, current US spec M3 has 333 hp. Thanks, I am aware of that. I was talking about e36 M3. America got a seriously watered down version of the M3. A lot of people (obviously not America M3 owners) say the version America was given wasn't really an M3 compared to the rest of the world, just a souped up 328 with an M badge. Europe's version of the latest M3 has 343bhp I believe so not sure where the 10hp goes on the American version, probably the crap petrol as even our standard stuff is better than your premium although we do pay serious money for each gallon or maybe emission regulations. What is the octain rating for standard fuel and premium in RON, low 90's isn't it? Here in the UK our standard fuel is 95 and the premium is 97/98 so you can imagine what a difference that makes.

I do agree with most of you guys and had the same thoughts and concerns. The biggest thing i do not like about the s2k is the low torque, and the biggest thing i do not like about the 99 M3 is the boxie look even tho i still think it looks good. Thx again for all your posts, what do you guys think about bringing a 350z into the picture?

M3's are rarer than s2000 but honestly the M3 is more well known and looked upon by society as a better, more high-class car. When i see a s2000 I look at it, then focus back on driving. When I see an M3 I'm trying to catch up to it too either get a closer look or get it to own me.
high class girls dig the M3...

The guy was saying that he was cosidering E36, so i was just commenting how since the current m3 is gonna go out of production soon, the E36 will seem even older than what it is now 3. I totally agree
