Celica Forums General Discussion Exterior 17'' or 18'' ?

It's not for me...


a friend is getting a c-one kit for the celica and just worried if 17" 's would scrape or would it just be best to go 18" 's to be sure?

what are your thoughts

well it would depend on the drop of the car.. if its really dropped go w/ 18s

Also depends on if he want's a show car or a nice car with good performance. Getting 18's will greatly affect your acceleration... trust me, I know!

well your friend should go with 17's and get a mild drop. hmm, its a 6-speed right? i guess wih 18' your friend would still have some "go" in it.

i got 17 cz i didnt really wanna slow down my car, but i really wish i got 18 cz itll look nicer. plus im sure itll slow you down just a bit more than the 17

it wouldn't really matter
getting 18's or 17's won't make a difference for the height unless the rim to tire ratio is bigger than stock.

found that phrasing somewhere, duhno how it really goes but i goes something like that. lol. but yah go for 18s!!!

with the wingswest kit dropped two inches plus seventeen inch rims i had now problems with "scraping." but eighteens do indeed affect performance (which i have now). seventeens is a good compromise between show and performance.

iim not very familiar with this kind of stuff so i was just wondering why 18' would affect performance?

did you ever have a moutian bike? Larger wheels is like using the bigger front chain ring, its a bigger gear, and hence harder to push. Your top speed will be higher, but its harder to accelerate. You can get a 18 inch rim, and still maintain the factory wheel size, but metal is hevier the rubber, and the added unsprung weight will slow you down.

i say 18z and i own 17z.

well it depends on the individual, but i dont want my car for racing, andi really like the way they sits, i saw trdciscos last nite it looked bad ass, theres no gap between fender and tire...

Tell him to with with a 18" wheel and a 225/35 tire...it's the same size as the stock tire. 18's don't affect your perfomance unless the wheels are extremely heavy. I had 18's on my Celica and the car still felt the same and I was still able to do burn outs. Even with my 22's I can still spin the wheels freely. As you go larger, you move the weight further out on the wheel, but aslong as you go with a forged or light weight wheel, it wont affect your performance 'cuz you're losing weight.

Since we're on the topic of rims, can I get all of your opinions about these rims on my celica. I like them but I need another opinion...

I don't know if this will help, but, I bought 18's and they do seem to tug abit,
feels like a power loss...

I don't want to get chrome I am thinking about the brushed aluminum, would that be ok? you can see it in the small pic on the lower right...It's mainly the style Im looking at

I just got 17 (215/45) and noticed a slower acceleretion. So 18" will be even worse. That is the price to pay if you want to look good.

you could keep your 16" or 15" in the Front and put the 18" in the back that would help your acceleretion

thats always a tough decision id say go with 17's

18's.

IMO 17" are better, because of 2 reasons:
>Cheaper
>Better handling

Celica is pretty low car and if it has 18" wheels, well, bye bye suspension

I have 18's on my widebody and they work perfectly with my suspension upgrades. They are a more expensive tire to replace though !! I've actually been thinking about going down to 17's for the track just to save some money on tires !!

I have 18'' Hella Tease rims and my suspension is lowered too. You'll be fine. Just watch for pot holes....
