I've searched on here but it is really really unclear. Some say unscrew and remove, others say once you do that there's a wire...and that's about as far as it goes. I'm tryin to undo the dash pieces to paint them so I am wondering if anyone knows how to remove the automatic shifter. If someone could give me some detail about this I'd appreciate it. Thanks guys.

You don't need to remove it to take apart your dash.
Just pull up on the bezel that surrounds it same as a manual shift.

I tugged it a little and it feels like it's on there prett good. Sure by just pulling up on it I'm not going to break any of it???

^^^ you will not break it, grab it at the back right in front of the window and lock control and pull up with a gentle yet firm tug. It will pop up no problem, smooth sailin from there.

-Put the key in, turn to "ON". -Put foot on brake, lift E-brake, shift into "Neutral". -Turn key to "ACC" (Can't remove key with car in Neutral, but this will at least keep it from draining the battery. -Remove the lowest piece of plastic by lifting up from around the power window buttons. -If you absolutely need to remove the Auto Shifter, there are two screws holding it on, they're on the backside near the bottom. You'll have to shift to "L" to get them out. But you shouldn't have to go this far.
