I have heard many people on this forum saying that the rev limiter for the 2002 celica GTS was at 7,200 rpms. On the other hand...I have heard people say that the rev limiter for the 2002 Celica GTS was at 7,800 rpms. Which one is true? Just thought I'd clear that up for myself and others

I have heard the same. For the 00-01 models the fuel cut off is at 8200-8300. And for the 02 models its at 7800. Thats why some people on the boards here say that its harder to land lift with a 2002. Is this true?

yea fuel cutoff for 00, 01, 03, 04, and 05 (i think, some say no) is 8350 redline is 8k
the 02 model had some other numbers, i just don't remember and it is harder to land in lift because you gotta be higher up in teh RPM to land where lift starts.

1st gear would start to limit at 7400 rpms and sputter to 7800 rpms
2nd 3rd 4th and 5th were all 7800 on the 02's.

overdrive - only disables 4th gear which is POINTLESS because that gear is never used for racing (unless you're going over 120mph or so) pedals - we only have two, brake and gas. if we're auto, why would we touch the brake, and why would we let our feet off the gas? sportshift - 7500rpms is the shift point for full auto, but with sportshift you can take it all the way to 7800 (if you got good timing). even then, your second gear rpms will land at about 5200, a full grand short of lift.
sorry to enlighten you ... but if what you were saying was true, then no one would say that the auto gts is slow

I've got an 02 manual and it goes past 7800rpms. I've never bounced it off the rev limiter but my wife said she may have, it doesn't cut the fuel very abrubtly it's just like taking yoru foot off the gas alittle and she said it was around 8kish. I thought the 02 was something like 8100 and the others were like 8300.. but yeah on the auto it's probably going to be max at redline of 7800.. it's not going to cut the fuel it's just going to shift for you.

It actually goes past 7800? I always shift at 7800 and never explored bouncing the limiter. So if it does actually redline at 8100, that means we might have a chance at landing lift after shifting

I'm not one to try it on my own car if people say otherwise about where the redline stands.

^ i was just gonna say... if you swap your ECU doesn't that change it? if i end up getting an '02 GTS 6spd, an ECU swap is one of the first mods on the list.
